Ho Chi Minh City issues regulations on teaching integrated English program

According to the guidance document on teaching the integrated English program of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training for the 2024-2025 school year, junior high and high schools will implement as follows:

Secondary school has 3 periods of natural science in English.

Secondary school students will study English, Maths and Natural Sciences of the UK National Curriculum for 8 periods/week. Including: 3 periods of English, 2 periods of Maths, 3 periods of Natural Sciences.

The Vietnamese general education program follows the 2018 General Education Program in the corresponding subjects each week: 1 English period, 2 Math periods, 2 Natural Science periods.

In which, English subject has 2 columns of regular assessment scores of the UK national program converted into 2 columns of regular assessment scores in the Vietnamese General Program.

The final assessment scores of the UK national curriculum are converted to the final assessment scores of the Vietnamese general education curriculum.

For Mathematics at secondary level, 1 column of regular assessment scores of the UK national program is converted into 1 column of regular assessment scores in the Vietnamese general education program. The final assessment score of the UK national program is converted into the mid-term assessment score in the Vietnamese general education program.

For Natural Sciences, the regular assessment scores of the UK national curriculum are converted into regular assessment scores of the Vietnamese general education curriculum. The final assessment scores of the UK national curriculum are converted into mid-term assessment scores of Natural Sciences in the Vietnamese general education curriculum.

In addition, teachers of Vietnamese general education programs will carry out the remaining regular and periodic assessment columns according to the regulations of the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training.

High school has 7 physics, chemistry, and biology lessons in English.

High school students will study English, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology in the UK National Curriculum with 15 periods/week. Including: 4 English periods, 4 Math periods, 7 periods of Physics and Physics cluster, Chemistry and Chemistry cluster, Biology and Biology cluster.

The Vietnamese general education program follows the 2018 general education program in the corresponding subjects each week: 1 English period for non-major classes, 3 English periods for English major classes, 2 Math periods, 1 Physics period and Physics cluster, 1 Chemistry period and Chemistry cluster, 1 Biology period and Biology cluster.

In particular, the English subject will have 2 columns of regular assessment scores of the UK national program converted into 2 columns of regular assessment scores in the Vietnamese general education program. The final assessment scores of the UK national program will be converted into the final assessment scores in the Vietnamese general education program.

Mathematics: 2 columns of regular assessment scores of the UK national program are converted into 2 columns of regular assessment scores in the Vietnamese general education program. The final assessment scores of the UK national program are converted into mid-term assessment scores in the Vietnamese general education program.

Physics, Chemistry, Biology: The regular assessment scores of the UK National Curriculum are converted into 1 regular assessment score column in the Vietnamese general education program. The final assessment scores of the UK National Curriculum are converted into the mid-term assessment scores of the above 3 subjects in the Vietnamese general education program.

For the subject clusters of physics, chemistry, and biology: the regular assessment scores of the UK national program are converted into 1 column of regular assessment scores of the subject in semester II of the Vietnamese general education program.

What is Integrated English?

It is known that the teaching of the integrated English program is carried out according to Decision 5695 of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on approving the project "Teaching and learning Math, Science & English subjects integrated with the UK and Vietnam National Curriculum Framework".

This program is being implemented by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training in collaboration with EMG Education in public high schools from the second semester of the 2014-2015 school year.
