According to the guidelines on teaching the integrated English program issued by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training for the 2024-2025 school year, secondary and high schools will implement the following:
At the lower secondary level, there are 3 science lessons taught in English.
Secondary school students will study English, Mathematics, and Natural Sciences from the UK National Curriculum for 8 lessons per week. This includes: 3 lessons of English, 2 lessons of Mathematics, and 3 lessons of Natural Sciences.
The Vietnamese general education program follows the 2018 General Education Program, with the corresponding subjects allocated to each week as follows: 1 English lesson, 2 Mathematics lessons, and 2 Natural Science lessons.
Specifically, the English subject has two regular assessment score columns from the UK national curriculum, which are converted into two regular assessment score columns in the Vietnamese high school curriculum.
The end-of-term assessment scores from the UK national curriculum are converted to end-of-term assessment scores in the Vietnamese secondary school curriculum.
For Mathematics at the lower secondary level, one regular assessment score column from the UK national curriculum is converted to one regular assessment score column in the Vietnamese general education curriculum. The end-of-term assessment score from the UK national curriculum is converted to a mid-term assessment score in the Vietnamese general education curriculum.
For Natural Sciences, the regular assessment scores from the UK national curriculum are converted to regular assessment scores in the Vietnamese high school curriculum. The end-of-term assessment scores from the UK national curriculum are converted to mid-term assessment scores for Natural Sciences in the Vietnamese high school curriculum.
In addition, teachers teaching the Vietnamese general education program will complete the remaining regular and periodic assessment scores as prescribed by the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training.
In high school, there are 7 physics, chemistry, and biology lessons taught in English.
High school students will study English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology according to the UK national curriculum, with 15 lessons per week. This includes: 4 lessons of English, 4 lessons of Mathematics, and 7 lessons of Physics and specialized topics in Physics, Chemistry and specialized topics in Chemistry, and Biology and specialized topics in Biology.
The Vietnamese general education program follows the 2018 general education curriculum, with the following allocation of time per week for each subject: 1 English lesson for non-specialized classes, 3 English lessons for specialized English classes, 2 Mathematics lessons, 1 Physics lesson and a Physics thematic cluster, 1 Chemistry lesson and a Chemistry thematic cluster, and 1 Biology lesson and a Biology thematic cluster.
Specifically, the English subject will have two regular assessment scores from the UK national curriculum, which will be converted to two regular assessment scores in the Vietnamese high school curriculum. The end-of-term assessment score from the UK national curriculum will be converted to the end-of-term assessment score in the Vietnamese high school curriculum.
Mathematics: The two regular assessment scores from the UK national curriculum are converted to two regular assessment scores in the Vietnamese high school curriculum. The end-of-term assessment score from the UK national curriculum is converted to a mid-term assessment score in the Vietnamese high school curriculum.
For Physics, Chemistry, and Biology: the regular assessment scores from the UK National Curriculum are converted into one regular assessment score column in the Vietnamese high school curriculum. The end-of-term assessment scores from the UK National Curriculum are converted into mid-term assessment scores for these three subjects in the Vietnamese high school curriculum.
For the physics, chemistry, and biology subject group: the regular assessment score from the UK national curriculum is converted into one regular assessment score for the subject in the second semester of the Vietnamese high school curriculum.
What is integrated English?
It is understood that the teaching of the integrated English program is carried out in accordance with Decision 5695 of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on approving the project "Teaching and learning integrated Mathematics, Science & English subjects based on the UK and Vietnamese National Curriculum Frameworks".
This program was implemented by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training in collaboration with EMG Education in public high schools starting from the second semester of the 2014-2015 school year.
