On the morning of August 22nd, the People's Committee of Thu Duc City held a conference to summarize the 2023-2024 school year and to implement the directions and tasks for the 2024-2025 school year.
According to a report from the Department of Education and Training of Thu Duc City, in the 2023-2024 school year, Thu Duc City has 384 schools with nearly 210,000 students enrolled. The total number of administrators and teachers in the entire education sector is over 15,700.
As a result of the school year's tasks, the preschool level achieved a 95% enrollment rate for children of preschool age (5 years old).
At the primary and lower secondary levels, the enrollment rate for grades 1 and 6 reached 100%. Specifically, the lower secondary school graduation rate was 99.8%, with 79.4% of students successfully enrolling in public high schools.
To date, 87.6% of schools in the locality have received educational quality accreditation. The ratio of classrooms is 310 classrooms per 10,000 people of school age (3-18 years old).
Evaluating the achievements and efforts of the education and training sector, Mr. Nguyen Huu Hiep, Secretary of the Thu Duc City Party Committee, said that Thu Duc City is currently implementing many programs and projects such as the "Smart Education and Lifelong Learning in Thu Duc City Project giai đoạn 2021-2025, vision to 2030"; the Program to improve the quality of education in Thu Duc City; the Project "Strengthening the application of information technology and digital transformation in education and training giai đoạn 2022-2025, orientation to 2030"…
In the 2023-2024 school year, Thu Duc City led in the number of students winning awards in the city-level excellent student competition with 583 students, including 42 students who won awards at the international and national levels. In addition, the locality also led in the city-wide results of the entrance exam for 10th grade in public schools.
Besides the achievements, the education sector also faces many difficulties and challenges such as: some wards do not have enough primary and secondary schools; school facilities are deteriorating and have not been repaired in a timely manner, affecting the distribution of students by area as well as the ability to meet the needs of students attending school for two sessions a day; the number of students per class is higher than prescribed, affecting the quality of teaching and student management; schools lack subject teachers, and the ratio of teachers not meeting the requirements for teaching two sessions a day...
From a management perspective, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, Duong Tri Dung, stated that with over 300 educational institutions, accounting for more than 16% of schools in the city, and students representing over 13% of the city's total student population, Thu Duc City has made significant efforts and breakthroughs in investing in school construction and promoting digital transformation to improve the quality of education and training in the area.
"I highly appreciate the locality's pioneering achievements in implementing innovative policies, thereby creating further leverage and leading other localities in the area. With its large organizational scale, Thu Duc City has many favorable conditions, but also faces pressure in carrying out educational tasks. Therefore, local leaders need to continue to demonstrate determination and promote policies to invest in educational development," the Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training expressed.
To continue building on the achievements already made and successfully complete the tasks for the 2024-2025 school year, representatives from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training proposed that the education and training sector of Thu Duc City focus on the following tasks: Enhancing a sense of responsibility and improving the management and professional capacity of administrators and teachers to meet the requirements of innovation and quality improvement in education; Promoting comprehensive education for students and developing advanced education through smart classroom models and digital libraries; Innovating education management and maximizing the effectiveness of digital transformation solutions.
On this occasion, the Minister of Education and Training awarded certificates of merit to 6 schools for their outstanding achievements in the emulation movement "Innovation and Creativity in Management, Teaching and Learning" in the 2023-2024 school year.
In addition, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee also awarded emulation flags to 13 collectives that excellently completed their tasks in the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 school years.
