The trend of students modifying vehicles is becoming a worrying issue in many localities. Many students arbitrarily alter the structure of electric scooters and small-capacity motorcycles to increase speed, change their appearance, or express their individuality without considering the safety risks.

According to a warning from the Traffic Police Department, many modified vehicles have had their engines, transmissions, batteries, speed controllers, or speed limiters tampered with or removed. These structural changes mean the vehicles no longer meet their original safety standards, posing a risk of traffic accidents, fires, and loss of control during operation.

In reality, many electric scooters used by students, after being modified, can reach much higher speeds than their original design, while the braking system, frame, and tires are not upgraded accordingly. When traveling on busy roads or encountering unexpected situations, riders are very likely to lose control, fall, or have serious collisions.

The Traffic Police Department also warned of the risk of fire and explosion from batteries and components of unknown origin or from unauthorized electrical connections. Many cases of using high-capacity batteries and charging them improperly can lead to short circuits and fires, directly threatening the lives of users and those around them.

Notably, the majority of students lack the skills to control vehicles and handle situations when participating in traffic. Meanwhile, the desire to show off, influenced by videos of modified cars, revving engines, and high-speed driving on social media, leads many to easily imitate these behaviors without fully understanding the consequences.

The trend of modifying vehicles among students poses many risks of accidents, fires, and traffic safety hazards. The Traffic Police Department advises parents not to consider this a harmless hobby.

Besides the risk of accidents, the gathering of groups of "customized car" drivers who speed, swerve, weave, and rev their engines loudly also causes a loss of public order and security, affecting road users and the lives of residents.

According to the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety 2024 and Decree 168/2024/ND-CP, the act of arbitrarily altering the structure and characteristics of a vehicle is a violation of the law. Individuals who do not meet the requirements to operate a vehicle will be subject to penalties. Parents or those who entrust the vehicle to individuals who do not meet the requirements to operate it may also face related legal consequences.

The Traffic Police Department advises parents not to view vehicle modification as a harmless hobby or a passing trend. Families should regularly inspect the vehicles their children use, promptly detecting any signs of structural changes, battery modifications, speed adjustments, or improper use of the vehicle.

In addition, schools need to strengthen the dissemination of safe traffic participation skills, coordinate with law enforcement agencies to inspect and remind students to comply with legal regulations, and contribute to preventing unfortunate incidents that may occur from the "car modification" trend in schools.
