(HNM) - Currently, many people believe that children with chickenpox should avoid water, so they should not bathe their children. According to medical experts, this belief is incorrect; children with chickenpox should not avoid bathing or water to avoid infection due to poor hygiene.
According to a report by the Hanoi Center for Disease Control, since the beginning of the year, Hanoi has recorded nearly 1,000 cases of chickenpox (mainly in young children), while in the same period in 2022 there were only 11 cases. To avoid infection, medical experts advise that when children have symptoms of fever and rash, parents should isolate them and not let them come into contact with others. The room of a child with chickenpox should be airy, clean, and have sunlight. Children with a fever above 38.5 degrees Celsius should be given paracetamol 10-15mg/kg every 4-6 hours, combined with warm compresses. If the child coughs a lot, has difficulty breathing, is tired, or is lethargic, they should be taken to the hospital for examination.
Doctors especially note that when children have chickenpox, they should not avoid bathing them to avoid infection due to poor hygiene. Bathe children with warm boiled water that has been cooled, limit the use of soap to avoid infection when soap remains on the peeling spots. After bathing, use a soft, absorbent towel to gently pat the whole body, wear cool clothes, then apply methylene blue to disinfect. Clean eyes, nose, and mouth 2-3 times a day with 0.9% saline because chickenpox can grow in the mouth, and not cleaning can cause secondary infection. Parents need to regularly trim their children's nails so that they do not scratch hard, causing the chickenpox spots to break, causing infection. Prevent the disease in children by vaccinating them against chickenpox.
