On May 28, the Department of Maternal and Child Health, Ministry of Health, announced that in 2023, the Ministry of Health will organize the first Vitamin A supplementation campaign for children starting from International Children's Day, June 1, which is also Micronutrient Day.
The campaign will be held nationwide, in which in 22 disadvantaged mountainous provinces, each child from 6 to 59 months will receive 1 dose of Vitamin A, and children from 24 to 59 months will receive periodic deworming. The source of drugs used in the campaign is donated by Vitamin Angel - USA. On May 27, 2023, the Ministry of Health issued Official Dispatch No. 3232/BYT-BMTE to localities organizing the campaign to guide provinces/cities to organize the campaign for children to take Vitamin A capsules combined with periodic deworming in the first phase of 2023.
Vitamin A plays an important role in the health and comprehensive development of children. Every year, the Ministry of Health organizes a campaign to supplement high doses of Vitamin A for more than 6 million children aged 6 to 54 months nationwide (there are 2 rounds each year: Round 1 in June; and Round 2 in December).
In these campaigns, children of this age are given high-dose Vitamin A capsules. In recent times, Vitamin A supplementation campaigns have helped Vietnam eliminate blindness due to Vitamin A deficiency in 2000, which is a great achievement.
Micronutrient Day 2023 has a communication message: Micronutrients are essential for growth, physical development, stature and intelligence, improving health and resistance of the body.
