Nam Dinh FC currently has a match scheduled for the final group stage game of the 2024-2025 AFC Cup against Bangkok United (Thailand) on December 4th.

Following the match, three players called up to the Vietnamese national team as reinforcements – naturalized players Nguyen Xuan Son, Nguyen Van Toan, and Nguyen Van Vi – will join the team from December 5th.

In the case of Vietnamese player of foreign origin Nguyen Xuan Son, he has been approved by the AFF to play in the ASEAN Cup 2024, but is only eligible to play for the Vietnamese national team from the match against Myanmar on December 21st.

This timeframe is sufficient according to FIFA regulations for a naturalized player, which is to "live in the territory of the relevant association for at least 5 years".

According to a source close to Tuoi Tre Online, Nguyen Xuan Son first set foot in Vietnam on December 20, 2019.

Nguyen Xuan Son (born in 1997) is of Brazilian origin. He acquired Vietnamese citizenship in August 2024.

This afternoon, December 3rd, the Vietnamese national team returned home after completing their training camp in South Korea. Coach Kim Sang Sik and his team will be based in Viet Tri, Phu Tho province , and will train until December 6th before departing for Laos.

Before heading to Laos, coach Kim Sang Sik will finalize the official 26-player squad for the Vietnamese national team participating in the ASEAN Cup 2024, meaning that 7 players will be leaving the team.

The ASEAN Cup 2024 features 10 teams from the Southeast Asian region. Group A includes Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia, and Timor Leste. Group B includes Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, Myanmar, and Laos.

In the group stage, teams play a single round-robin format, with each team playing two home and two away matches. At the end of the group stage, the top two teams from each group advance to the semi-finals. The semi-finals and final are played over two legs, home and away. In the semi-finals, the away goals rule will apply.

At the 2024 ASEAN Cup, Vietnam's goal is to reach the final. The Vietnamese team will face strong competition from Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia. In the 2022 ASEAN Cup, Vietnam finished as runners-up after losing to Thailand in the final.
