The issue of food and drink for athletes from various sports delegations at the 33rd SEA Games currently taking place in Thailand continues to be a headache for the host country.
Over the past few days, not only the Vietnamese sports delegation but also many other delegations have complained to the host country about the poor quality and lack of nutrition in the meals provided to athletes.
Chicken obsession
According to the SEA Games regulations, each member of the foreign sports delegation must pay 50 USD per person per day for food and accommodation costs. Depending on the sport, athletes will be accommodated in different areas, close to the competition venue.
Responding to Tuoi Tre Online last night On December 12th, members of the Vietnamese clay pigeon shooting team said they were obsessed with chicken. One athlete shared: "Our clay pigeon shooting range is about a two-hour drive from Bangkok, so the organizers arranged for the team to stay in a hotel right next to the range for convenience in training and competing."
Since the Vietnamese team arrived, for five consecutive days we've only been able to eat rice with chicken and no other kind of meat.
The host provided chicken eggs, fried chicken, stir-fried chicken, and even chicken in the soup... At lunchtime, the organizers distributed boxed meals to the athletes at the shooting range, usually each box containing only a bowl of rice, some vegetables, and a piece of chicken. In the evening, back at the hotel, food was laid out on the table for the athletes to choose from, but there were only 4-5 dishes, and chicken was the only meat available.
"For the past few days, the team has had to buy extra pork from the market near the shooting range to eat with the boxed meals provided by the Organizing Committee. The team has also reported this to the leaders of the Vietnamese sports delegation and the Organizing Committee."
Previously, the team leaders of the Vietnamese men's, women's, and futsal teams also complained to the Vietnamese sports delegation about the inadequate and deficient meals provided to the athletes.
The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) had to send people to the supermarket to buy extra ingredients to cook for the athletes at the hotel. They also ordered additional food from Vietnamese restaurants in Bangkok to cook and deliver to the hotel for the players to "ward off hunger".

Many sports teams are complaining...
Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Hoang Quoc Vinh - deputy head of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation at the 33rd SEA Games - said that all teams have reported on the nutritional status of their athletes to the delegation leaders over the past few days.
During the delegation leaders' meeting with host country Thailand on November 11-12, the leaders of the Vietnamese sports delegation raised concerns with Thailand. Besides Vietnam, many other delegations also complained to Thailand about the insufficient food at the hotels for athletes, with each meal consisting of only two dishes, which they considered too meager, and requested additional food.
Besides raising the issue with host country Thailand to address it, the leaders of the Vietnamese sports delegation also requested that the teams proactively purchase additional food to ensure the athletes receive adequate nutrition from November 11-12. The Department of Physical Education and Sports and the Vietnam Olympic Committee will provide additional funding for the teams.
Thailand will send an apology letter for the incorrect map of Vietnam displayed at the opening ceremony of the 33rd SEA Games.
Regarding the opening ceremony of the 33rd SEA Games on the evening of December 9th, where Thailand displayed a map of Vietnam that omitted the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos, the leaders of the Vietnamese sports delegation have also raised this issue with the host country.
The host country, Thailand, has admitted its mistake and said it will send a letter of apology to Vietnam.
