At the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia, Nguyen Thi Oanh was the athlete who won the most gold medals for the Vietnamese sports delegation (in individual events), with 4 gold medals in the 1,500m, 5,000m, 10,000m, and 3,000m steeplechase events.

At this SEA Games , the runner born in 1995 has maintained her good form, and barring any surprises, she is capable of defending the four gold medals she won two years ago.

Nguyen Thi Oanh has no rivals at the SEA Games.

The 5,000m is Nguyen Thi Oanh's specialty. At the Asian Championships in Gumi (South Korea) in May, she broke the national record (15 minutes 46 seconds 11). Therefore, in the regional competition, the athlete from Bac Ninh has no rivals. If she wins the gold medal, Nguyen Thi Oanh will increase her total number of gold medals won in 5 consecutive SEA Games to 13.

Besides Nguyen Thi Oanh, the Vietnamese athletics team could also win gold medals in the men's 5,000m and the 4 x 400m individual medley. These are two events where Vietnam possesses some of the region's top athletes. At the 33rd SEA Games, the Vietnamese athletics team aims to win over 14 gold medals.

In swimming, the Vietnamese swimming team is predicted to win at least one gold medal in the men's 200m freestyle event with Huy Hoang on the fourth day of official competition at the Games.

Also on December 13th, martial arts such as taekwondo, karate, and kickboxing are expected to contribute many gold medals to the Vietnamese sports delegation. Other strong disciplines such as weightlifting, petanque, and chess could also win gold medals. Wushu, judo, Muay Thai, and table tennis are competing in the qualifying rounds, ready to "explode" with gold medals in the upcoming competition days.
