The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on May 27 that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un personally supervised the tests.
According to KCNA , the tests focused on evaluating the power of special warheads for tactical ballistic missiles, the reliability of extended-range 240 mm guided rocket artillery using a highly accurate auto-guidance system, and the target-hitting capability of AI-integrated tactical cruise missiles.
This tactical cruise missile combines a highly accurate automated guidance system with terrain-comparing guidance technology (TERCOM), and also integrates AI-powered terminal guidance. The weapon is capable of accurately striking targets up to 100 km away through a versatile flight mode combining glide and thrust.
KCNA reported that the fire control and automation systems of all launch vehicles have been upgraded to suit modern combat conditions, increasing their battlefield applicability.
Expressing great satisfaction with the test results, Chairman Kim Jong Un praised the fact that advanced defense technologies had been put to the test in real-world weapons trials. He stated that these tests were a "clear signal" that North Korea's military capabilities are being upgraded, and reflected significant technological progress in enhancing the combat strength of the army.
According to him, thanks to the development of new tactical weapon systems, the North Korean military's firepower is now built towards automation, long range, and super accuracy. The leader particularly emphasized the military value of the tactical cruise missile expected to be deployed to long-range artillery brigades in the southern border region.
The North Korean leader also declared that building the most modern and powerful artillery force is one of the top priorities in Pyongyang's military development policy. According to him, the North Korean military needs to possess sufficient destructive capabilities to create deterrence and prevent conflict.
The leader also reaffirmed the policy of continuing to strengthen both nuclear and conventional weapons, and stated that the plan to protect military sovereignty and exercise the right to self-defense would be demonstrated through "more concrete actions" in the future.
