Coming to Con Phu My, visitors will hear about the legend of the temple worshiping Mr. Con and Mrs. Con - the first residents to come to this alluvial land to make a living and make a living. People say that in the early 50s of the 20th century, Mr. Hai Dung was one of the first residents to set foot on this alluvial land to reclaim and make a living. One night while sleeping, he dreamed of a large, strong old man coming to ask: Are you doing business here? If you want favorable weather, good wind, good crops, and prosperity... you must worship the land where you live! Being told by the gods in his dream, the next morning, the old farmer told everyone about it and together they organized an offering. Since then, every year on the 15th and 16th of June (lunar calendar), the residents of Con have divided their work to organize an offering ceremony to unite the community.

Another anecdote tells that: “About 70 years ago, when this island had just emerged as a high mound of land, there was a group of people who lived by fishing and when there were storms, strong winds... they often took shelter on this mound of land. Among them was an old couple who built a hut to stay on this mound of land. Every day, in addition to casting nets, fishing... they also harvested corn, planted potatoes, and cultivated rice to make a living. The land of the island was increasingly filled with alluvium, and the number of residents coming here to make a living increased day by day. During their time living there, they often helped people when they were in need. Nearly 10 years later, due to old age and poor health, they passed away and were revered by the people as the ancestors who had the merit of reclaiming the first land of Con. Since then, the religious residents unanimously established a small shrine to worship Mr. Con and Mrs. Con. In 1996, Mr. Tu Sanh donated land to build a shrine so that everyone would have a place to worship. In In 2015, with the support of the State, the people built a temple to worship Mr. Con and Mrs. Con on an area of 490m2, with a steel frame and corrugated iron roof. Recently, the time to worship Mr. and Mrs. Con has been moved to the 15th and 16th of the third lunar month every year.

Most of the people of Con Phu My live on agricultural production. Economic resources include: corn, potatoes, beans, chili, sugarcane and fruit gardens such as: mango, guava, coconut... In particular, there is a type of aquatic plant that is grown a lot by the people of Con Phu My, which is water fern (also known as rau nhut). This is a water fern, soft herbaceous plant covered by a layer of white foam, roots grow from the nodes in clusters. Rau nhut crawls on the water surface, has compound pinnate leaves like the leaves of the mimosa plant. Rau nhut flowers are small, yellow printed on the green leaves sparkling on the water surface... very beautiful.

Young shoots of water mimosa are delicious, sweet, nutritious and medicinal when eaten raw. Water mimosa stems are used to make attractive and nutritious dishes such as: boiled, dipped in fish sauce hotpot, cooked in sour soup with freshwater fish... as our folk saying goes:

"Want to eat water spinach and braised fish sauce

Go to Con Phu My to eat to your heart's content"

In recent years, the tourism industry of Dong Thap province has implemented a plan to build a tourist attraction called “Green Phu My Village”, organizing homestays, canoeing on the river... for tourists to experience a peaceful life, enjoy green, clean, safe agricultural products... bearing traditional local cultural values.
