On the evening of August 1, information from the Northern Helicopter Company (Army Corps 18, Ministry of National Defense ), after receiving orders from superiors on the use of helicopters to rescue people isolated and stranded due to floods in Muong Hung commune, Son La province, the flight crew successfully rescued all 8 isolated people, including 7 adults and 1 child.
Immediately after receiving the order, the Northern Helicopter Company grasped the mission, urgently developed plans and flight routes, closely coordinated with relevant forces; and prepared well for technical assurance, logistics, communications, weather conditions, and meteorology in the areas.
On the afternoon of August 1, the flight took off from Gia Lam airport on EC 155-B1 helicopter with registration number VN-8624, piloted by Lieutenant Colonel Le Hai Dang, Deputy Director of the Company and members of Flight Crew VN-8624, urgently set off to carry out the mission.
After nearly 1 hour, at 16:50, the flight crew reached the location of the victims. With nearly 50 minutes of urgent work, the flight crew rescued all 8 people isolated by the flood, including 7 adults and 1 child.
The eight people rescued include Dao Van Dong (born in 1967); Tong Thi Trang (born in 1990); Dao Thao Trang (born in 2012); Tong Dieu Linh (born in 2012); Tong Hai Yen (born in 2023); Vi A Do (born in 1996); Vi A Truong (born in 2000) and Vi A Chia (born in 1998).
Despite the complicated weather conditions, the Flight Crew made every effort to control the helicopter to a safe landing point. Always ready to receive and carry out rescue missions in all situations, with a spirit of urgency, precision, and absolute safety, each member of the Flight Crew clearly identified that these flights were not only military missions but also orders from the hearts of soldiers.
The successful rescue flight once again affirmed the bravery, capacity and high sense of responsibility of the Northern Helicopter Company in peacetime, contributing to clearly demonstrating that the Army always stands side by side with the people, especially in remote, mountainous and border areas, contributing to maintaining the people's hearts and minds in building and defending the Fatherland.
Previously, at 3:00 p.m. the same day, the Department of Rescue and Relief (General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army) received information from the General Staff's Operations Department (Military Region 2), specifically: At 2:50 p.m. on August 1, 2025, in Anh Trung village, Muong Hung commune, Son La province, 8 people were trapped and isolated due to floods.
The Department of Rescue and Relief has coordinated with the Air Defense - Air Force and the 18th Army Corps to agree to be ready to use helicopters and air search and rescue forces to rescue 8 people trapped and isolated due to floods; at the same time, the Ministry's Command Department has requested the General Staff and the Ministry of National Defense to direct the use of 1 helicopter and air search and rescue forces to coordinate with Military Region 2 and forces at the scene to rescue 8 people trapped and isolated. The Ministry of National Defense has directed the 18th Army Corps to conduct rescue flights in Son La province.
