PSG will be determined to get revenge on Chelsea. |
PSG will host Chelsea at Parc des Princes in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16, a clash that promises to be tense between the reigning champions and a Premier League side eager to return to the pinnacle of European football.
The two teams are meeting again for the first time since the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final, where Chelsea won 3-0 thanks to a standout performance from Cole Palmer. However, the current context is different, with PSG entering the match as the reigning Champions League champions.
PSG's journey this season hasn't been entirely smooth. Luis Enrique's team finished only 11th in the qualifying round and had to play in the play-offs to secure a place in the round of 16. They overcame Monaco with a 5-4 aggregate score after two tense legs.
PSG's form in Ligue 1 has also been inconsistent. After a 1-0 victory against Le Havre, they unexpectedly lost 1-3 to Monaco at home. This result has made the title race even more intense, with Lens now just one point behind PSG.
Nevertheless, PSG still shows confidence when facing English teams. They have only lost one of their last eight matches against Premier League representatives in European competitions. Last season, PSG successively eliminated Liverpool, Aston Villa, and Arsenal on their way to winning the championship.
Chelsea entered the match in relatively positive form. Liam Rosenior's team had won 5 of their last 9 matches in all competitions. Recently, they beat Aston Villa 4-1 in the Premier League and overcame Wrexham 4-2 after extra time in the FA Cup.
Chelsea also have a good record against French teams, winning their last six matches in European competitions. However, the challenge at Parc des Princes will undoubtedly be immense.
PSG are without Fabian Ruiz and Quentin Ndjantou due to injury, while Ousmane Dembele could return to the starting lineup. On the Chelsea side, Levi Colwill, Mykhaylo Mudryk, Estevao Willian and Jamie Gittens are all absent.
With both teams possessing fast-paced and skillful attacking lines, the match in Paris is likely to be an open game. A draw would leave the tie still full of drama before the return leg at Stamford Bridge.
