The workers don't need to possess extraordinary acrobatic skills, superpowers, or the ability to ride a cloud like in the Journey to the West movie. They just need to like the character of the Monkey King or Sun Wukong, and have a considerable appetite to consume the food that tourists can give the character to eat each day.
The Five Finger Mountain scenic area is seeking potential candidates for a beloved character and is willing to pay up to 6,000 yuan (approximately 20.5 million VND) if selected, according to Shangyou News .
When hired, workers must dress up as the Monkey King, sit in a cave at the foot of the mountain, and wait for tourists to feed them, whether it's instant noodles, apples, or bananas.
"What a great job! Free food all the time and you even get paid!", read a comment on Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok.
And applicants don't need any experience, qualifications, or education.
The manager of the scenic area said they had already hired two people to play "The Monkey King," and only needed a third.
Fortunately, the "Monkey King" wasn't forced to swallow all the food the tourists brought; they could keep some and share it with their colleagues later. This allowed them to avoid "eating until their stomachs burst."
