On January 30, CNN reported that US President Joe Biden asked his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping not to "interfere in the 2024 US presidential election" when the two met in November.
According to CNN , the exchange between the US and Chinese leaders is said to have taken place during high-level bilateral discussions on the sidelines of the Asia- Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in California last year. During this meeting, President Joe Biden was the one who raised the issue.

Since Donald Trump was elected President of the United States in 2016, US officials - usually members of the Democratic Party - have repeatedly accused foreign powers (Russia, China, Iran...) of "interfering" in the US election. However, these accusations are often unfounded. Beijing and Moscow have repeatedly denied allegations of interfering in the US election.
During a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Bangkok last week, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken asked his Chinese counterpart to provide the same assurances that Xi Jinping gave Biden last November. In response, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said China would not interfere in this year's US election.
“The possibility of China interfering or influencing the US election has been repeatedly mentioned at high-level meetings between the two countries in recent months,” a CNN source said.
During a meeting between US and Chinese leaders last year, President Joe Biden said the two countries should work to ensure the US-China relationship does not “slide into conflict” and manage the relationship “responsibly.”
Meanwhile, President Xi Jinping called the US-China relationship “the most important bilateral relationship in the world ,” and said he and President Joe Biden “shoulder a heavy responsibility to our two peoples, to the world, and to history.”
