Chinese social media users have been arguing over the "strange dish" in the meal of a male student at Jiangxi Industrial Technical College in Nanchang City in recent days.
The meal ordered at the school cafeteria had "a strange dish never seen before". Therefore, this student took out his phone to record it, then reported his concerns to the cafeteria staff.
The school cafeteria later responded that it was "duck neck". Duck neck is a familiar dish to Chinese people, but students did not order this dish and above all, it did not resemble a duck head at all.
Dissatisfied, the student posted a video of the "strange dish" on Weibo on June 1, asking for arbitration. As a result, most people agreed that it was a rat's head.

The video quickly went viral on Chinese social media. On June 3, Jiangxi Industrial Technical College issued an official statement denying the rumor about the rat head and asserting that it was a "strangely shaped duck head"!
Even the local food watchdog commented on the incident the next day, saying that it was indeed a duck head.
As the rumors continued to spread, the college issued a red-stamped document warning students not to continue discussing the incident on social media. The student who posted on social media was also called to the school office to write a self-criticism.
However, the incident did not subside. According to Xinhua News Agency, on June 10, the Jiangxi provincial government established an interdisciplinary inspection team - includingeducation , security and food supervision - to clarify whether the strange dish was exactly a rat head or a duck neck.
The results announced by the interdisciplinary inspection team on June 17 confirmed that the "strange dish" was a rat head.
"The local food supervision agency and the school did not verify carefully," the interdisciplinary inspection team said. "We have revoked the canteen's food business license. We will strictly handle those involved in the incident."
The above conclusion has made many people continue to express disappointment with both the school and local authorities for hiding the truth.
"Finding a rat head while eating is not the scariest part. The real scariest part is that people can clearly see that it is a rat head but they insist that it is a duck neck. Why not calmly admit that it is a rat head? It is just a food safety incident and a few temporary staff can be fired or fined and then everything will be over," commented a Chinese netizen.
