China speeds up with 600 km/h maglev train thanks to German technology
The race between China and Japan on high-speed trains is not over yet, as China launched a new maglev train with the ambition to surpass Japan's L0 series.

China's new maglev train has a design speed of up to 600 km/h, competing directly with Japan's L0 train, which holds the record of 603 km/h. The vehicle, developed by CRRC, completed its first design phase in July 2024 and will undergo further technical, safety and route testing.
If commercial operations are successful, people could travel from Beijing to Shanghai in just 2.5 to 3 hours. The train will run on rubber tires below 150 km/h and be magnetically levitated at high speeds, optimizing efficiency and reducing friction.
CRRC has not announced an official operating roadmap, but experts believe that the train belongs to the line developed from the CRRC 600 project with a technology platform from Germany's Thyssenkrupp. Superconducting magnetic technology, rare earth materials and composite materials play a core role in new design, promoting China's platform industry. However, the report shows that the train is only suitable for super-large urban clusters such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou to optimize cost-effectiveness.
Future maglev fares will be higher than current high-speed rail, and commercial operation will still take many more years of development. Dear readers, please watch the video : TCL introduces self-cleaning air conditioner, full of technology for less than 10 million.
