On August 25, China's National Salt Industry Corporation, the world's largest salt producer, urged people to avoid panic buying and hoarding after Japan began discharging wastewater from the Fukushima plant into the ocean.

Meanwhile, the corporation said it has increased shifts to speed up salt production and distribution and ensure supply to the market. In a related development, South Korea also announced it will step up radiation testing of farmed seafood to reassure the public after Japan released treated wastewater from the Fukushima nuclear power plant.

Meanwhile, Japan insists that discharging treated wastewater into the sea is safe, noting that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has also concluded that the impact of the discharge on humans and the environment is negligible.
