On August 25, the China National Salt Industry Corporation - the world's largest salt producer, called on people to avoid rushing to buy and stockpile this product after Japan began to drain wastewater from the Fukushima plant into the ocean.

At the same time, the group said it has been working overtime to speed up salt production and distribution and ensure market supply. In a related development, South Korea also announced that it will step up radiation testing of farmed seafood to reassure public opinion after Japan discharged treated wastewater from the Fukushima nuclear plant.

Meanwhile, Japan asserted that discharging treated water into the sea is safe, noting that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has also concluded that the impact of the discharge on humans and the environment is insignificant.
