China has imposed additional tariffs on some US imports in response to tariffs Washington placed on steel and aluminum from the Northeast Asian nation.

According to the notice, the Dispute Settlement Committee said that Beijing should handle the situation in a way that meets WTO regulations.

On Washington’s side, the office of the US Trade Representative welcomed the WTO decision, adding that China had “responded inappropriately with unreasonable tariffs.”

China's Commerce Ministry said it is studying the WTO ruling.

The country can file a petition with the WTO's appellate body to object to the above ruling within 60 days from the date of this ruling.

However, this move could lead to another legal dispute as the US does not support the WTO's dispute settlement appellate body.

Since 2017, the US has blocked the appointment of new judges, leading to the body ceasing to function in November 2019.
