Fishermen rush to take shelter from storms and consume seafood

From the afternoon of September 23, at Lach Con Fishing Port, an urgent atmosphere prevailed. Ships that had just set sail for less than a day were already rushing back. On shore, hundreds of workers were busy loading and transporting seafood to cold storage and processing facilities.
The owner of the NA 94294TS ship, Mr. Le Ba Phu, said: “My ship has 7 workers, it just set sail and has not reached the desired output, but when we heard about the storm, we immediately returned. Returning to shore early means reducing output, but safety of life and property must still be put first. Fortunately, this trip caught a lot of fish and squid, so even though we did not have enough days at sea, we still had some income.”
Crew member Phung Hung added: “After just one day of fishing, each worker earns an average of 1 - 1.2 million VND. As soon as seafood arrives at the port, traders buy it immediately, prices are not forced down, helping crew members feel more secure before taking a break from sea to avoid the storm.”

Not only fishermen, but also purchasing and processing facilities have entered a period of urgent work. Ms. Nguyen Thi Tai, owner of a processing facility in Cua Lo ward, said: "In the past two days, we have focused on purchasing a lot of fish and shrimp. Both to sell to fishermen and to ensure raw materials for production, avoiding disruption when the storm comes."
In Cua Lo, the entire ward has 537 large and small boats that have basically returned to shore safely. Only a few nearshore fishing boats are on their way back.
Mr. Hoang Minh Tho - Deputy Head of the Economic Department of Cua Lo Ward People's Committee, said: "We coordinate with the Border Guard force to notify and guide ship owners to enter the port, complete procedures, anchor, and secure moorings. At the same time, the government will strengthen propaganda so that people will absolutely not be subjective and proactively respond to all situations.

As of this morning, September 24, there are currently 339 vehicles and 1,377 workers docked and anchored; there are 2 fishing boats of Cua Lo fishermen anchored outside the province and 12 boats from other provinces anchored at Cua Lo.
While waiting for the storm, fishermen repaired their boats and checked their fishing gear. Some households also quickly sold their catch to recoup capital and prepare for a new trip when the weather stabilized.
Border guards accompany people to respond to storms

At Quynh Phuong Border Guard Station, the work of calling and guiding ships to take shelter from the storm has been thoroughly deployed since the morning of September 23 until now.
Lieutenant Colonel Pham Van Thanh - Head of Lach Con Border Control Station, said: "We have mobilized 22 officers and soldiers to go directly to the fishing port and boat landing, calling on fishermen to urgently return to shore. At the same time, we coordinated to support people in anchoring, securing boats, and leaving the dangerous area. By 10:00 a.m. on September 24, more than 1,000 fishing boats had entered safe anchorage, with only about 10 small boats operating near the shore but having received notice, they will arrive in the next few hours."
Not only stopping at calling for boats, the Border Guard force also coordinated with the authorities of Quynh Mai and Tan Mai wards to deploy many other response measures: tying boats and houses, tying up and protecting the aquaculture cage system.

Mr. Ho Sy Tung - Vice Chairman of Tan Mai Ward People's Committee, said: "In addition to supporting fishermen to bring their boats to anchorage, we also encourage people not to stay on the boat when the storm hits. Militia and self-defense forces and local organizations join together to reinforce houses, collect belongings, and ensure people's safety."
A representative of the Border Guard Command of Nghe An province said that the unit has directed all stations and posts in the area to closely coordinate with coastal authorities, both to ensure the safety of fishing vessels and to support fishermen in storm response measures. At the same time, propaganda work has been stepped up to help people clearly understand the location and direction of the storm, and proactively take preventive measures.
