The latest update from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said that on July 21 and 22, a total of 48 domestic and international flights were delayed, diverted or canceled due to the storm. The number of passengers affected was up to 7,686 people.
Specifically, at Cat Bi airport from 11pm on July 21 to 4pm on July 22, 9 domestic flights were delayed/redirected, 27 flights were canceled, 6 international flights were canceled, 6,762 passengers were affected.
At Noi Bai airport, from 10am to 7pm on July 22, 4 domestic flights were delayed/redirected, affecting 624 passengers.
At Van Don Airport, from 7:00 p.m. on July 21 to 10:00 a.m. on July 22, 2 domestic flights had to be canceled, affecting 300 passengers.
This morning, July 22, many airlines continued to cancel many flights to avoid storm Wipha.
Specifically, Vietjet announced flight schedule adjustments on July 22. Accordingly, 9 flights to/from Hai Phong were temporarily suspended, including: VJ232 Ho Chi Minh City - Van Don route; VJ233 Van Don - Ho Chi Minh City route; VJ290/VJ1278/VJ1284 Ho Chi Minh City - Hai Phong route; VJ291/VJ1275/VJ1285 Hai Phong - Ho Chi Minh City route; VJ734/VJ733 Nha Trang - Hai Phong - Nha Trang route.
The airline also adjusted the flight itinerary of 2 flights VJ926/VJ925 from Hai Phong - Seoul (Korea) - Hai Phong to Hanoi - Seoul (Korea) - Hanoi and some other flights were affected.
Vietnam Airlines also said that due to the impact of Typhoon Wipha (Typhoon No. 3) in the Hong Kong area (China), Vietnam Airlines Group (including Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines and VASCO) adjusted the operation plan of some flights on July 21 to ensure the safety of passengers and crew.
Specifically, Vietnam Airlines will cancel flights VN1188, VN1171, VN7188, VN7189, VN7056, VN7057 between Ho Chi Minh City and Hai Phong; VN1856, VN1857 between Ho Chi Minh City and Con Dao.
On July 21, Pacific Airlines will adjust the departure time of flights BL6440 and BL6441 between Ho Chi Minh City and Hai Phong to be earlier than planned, to ensure take-off and landing time at Cat Bi airport before 12:00. The airline will also cancel flights BL6520 and BL6521 on this route during the day.
For July 22, Vietnam Airlines Group flights operating at Cat Bi airport will depart after 12:00.
In addition, many domestic and international flights of Vietnam Airlines Group on July 21 and 22 will be affected by Typhoon Wipha. Flight times may continue to be adjusted according to the development of the storm.
