The Biden administration's climate change spending comes from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).
Batteries, electric vehicles, mining and solar energy are the areas with the most investment.
Over $2.7 billion was disbursed in the last two months of 2024, including $1.5 billion for electric car maker Rivian; Samsung received $460 million and $754 million for Novonix to mine rare earths.
Experts say it will take time to encourage companies to deploy clean energy components in the US, as well as require them to comply with treasury regulations to qualify for tax deductions.
Kate Gordon, a former senior adviser to Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm in the Biden administration, said the White House has pivoted to disbursing funds quickly. Withdrawing money and signing contracts is an urgent requirement.
There is still about $20 billion left unallocated for climate.
The money is expected to go toward climate-smart agriculture , clean energy tax credits and loans, conservation programs, and support for coastal communities, said Annabelle Rosser, an analyst at Atlas.
However, this funding could still be cut when Mr. Donald Trump officially returns to the White House.
Mr. Trump once called climate change the "new green scam" and announced the cancellation of unspent funds in this area after taking office as US President on January 20.
