Before the rumor that Bphone is about to be discontinued, how did BKAV CEO Nguyen Tu Quang respond?

VTC NewsVTC News09/05/2023

First launched in mid-2015, Bphone is a smartphone line of Vietnamese brand BKAV. Mr. Nguyen Tu Quang, CEO of BKAV, has high expectations for Bphone. Having revealed that he spent more than 1,000 billion VND to develop Bphone, Mr. Quang said that he will build a smartphone industry owned by Vietnamese people, competing equally with world names in all segments.

In May 2021, when Vsmart announced that it would stop producing smartphones, BKAV CEO once again reinforced his commitment to this field by stating that "smartphones are the quintessence of technology" and "in the coming decades, humanity's latest technologies will still revolve around smartphones". Mr. Quang even eloquently affirmed that Bphone could absolutely enter the top 2 market share in 2023, despite the fact that Bphone did not appear on the Vietnamese smartphone market share map at that time.

Bphone A Series.

In December 2021, BKAV launched the Bphone A Series. In order to attract customers, these models are aimed at the low-cost and mid-range segments. To achieve this, BKAV entrusted the design and production stages to a Chinese manufacturer, while BKAV only assembled and developed the software.

At the same time, CEO Nguyen Tu Quang still promises that BKAV will have high-end, truly "Made in Vietnam" phone lines in the future. The last phone line developed and manufactured by BKAV itself is Bphone B86, launched in May 2020.

However, 1.5 years have passed since the Bphone A Series, and 3 years since the Bphone B86, but BKAV has not yet launched any new models. CEO Nguyen Tu Quang, an active person on social networks, has also not made any moves related to this model. Combined with the saturation of the smartphone sector and the economic recession, many people have asked the question: Is Bphone over?

Users' interest was heightened when recently, in a status line of Mr. Nguyen Tu Quang with content unrelated to Bphone, a person "broke the rules" and raised questions about the fate of this phone line.

"So when will bphone release a new phone? I heard that the smartphone division is about to be dissolved, right? I hope you can give me an explanation so I can wait," user Chieu Lien wrote.

Surprisingly, BKAV CEO did not "ignore" but answered frankly: "Thank you, what do you mean by dissolution? Bphone in particular, high technology in general, is an objective necessity of a developed country. Therefore, it is a mission!".

So, according to Mr. Quang, BKAV has not yet dissolved the Bphone development team. However, that is all the information that users have at the moment. Because right after receiving the response from the BKAV CEO, user Chieu Lien once again asked about the specific time when the new Bphone will be launched, but received no response.
