On the afternoon of March 14, the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences, University of Natural Sciences (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) announced the enrollment plan for grade 10 this year.
Accordingly, this year the school recruits specialized classes in math, computer science, physics, chemistry, and biology. Each class has 105 students. The total quota for 5 classes is 525 students, the same as last year.
The new point is that this year the school only uses the entrance exam method to recruit students, eliminating the method of directly recruiting candidates who won first prize in the provincial excellent student competition like previous years.
With the entrance exam method, each candidate can register for a maximum of 2 out of 5 specialized classes (math, computer science, physics, chemistry, biology). Candidates cannot register for 2 specialized classes with the same specialized exam time.
All candidates must take three general exams, including literature, math (round 1) and English.
For specialized subjects, candidates take the specialized subject exam corresponding to the registered major, including math (round 2) for candidates applying for math major and informatics major; informatics for candidates applying for informatics major.
Candidates take the natural science exam - physics knowledge and skills for candidates applying for physics major; natural science exam - chemistry knowledge and skills for candidates applying for chemistry major; and natural science exam - biology knowledge and skills for candidates applying for biology major.
Candidates for the IT major can choose to take one of two specialized subjects: math (round 2) or IT. The quota for candidates taking the math major (round 2) is 70 and for the IT major is 35.
In addition to the condition of good or higher academic results in high school classes, to be considered for admission, candidates must achieve 4 points or higher in each exam subject, calculated on a scale of 10.
Exam schedule for High School for Natural Sciences in 2025:
Candidates take the specialized exam on June 1 and 2. Register online from April 21 to May 5. The exam fee is 600,000 VND/application. The fee is 800,000 VND if candidates register for two specialized classes.
The results of the specialized exam will be announced before June 24. Successful candidates are expected to enroll directly on July 10.
In 2024, the High School for Natural Sciences has nearly 2,800 candidates registered for the exam, with a total of about 3,070 wishes.
The competition ratio for the school's specialized classes last year was as follows: specialized math 1/7, specialized computer science 1/6.3, specialized physics 1/5.8, specialized chemistry 1/6.6, specialized biology 1/3.5.
