The whole city has 15,484 candidates registered to take the entrance exam to public high schools for the 2023-2024 school year, while the total enrollment target is only 11,432 students. With more than 4,000 ninth graders not being admitted to public high schools, non-public schools and continuing education centers may be the choice of many parents and students.

The Department of Education and Training (DoET) has approved the 10th grade enrollment plan for the 2023-2024 school year for non-public schools. Accordingly, there are 11 non-public high schools enrolling 10th grade students, with a total enrollment target of 2,950 (FPT Primary, Secondary and High School with 700 enrollment targets; Quang Trung High School with 572 enrollment targets; Khai Tri High School with 400 enrollment targets; Hien Nhan Secondary and High School with 360 enrollment targets; Hermann Gmeiner High School with 315 enrollment targets; Viet-Nhat Primary, Secondary and High School with 300 enrollment targets...).
Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Tuyet, Principal of Hermann Gmeiner High School, said that in the 2023-2024 school year, the school is allowed to enroll 315 students (7 classes). Before the public high school entrance exam for grade 10, the school recruited 2 classes by direct admission, for candidates who registered their first choice at the school and did not take the entrance exam at other schools. After the exam, the school continued to enroll in the second round by combining academic records and grade 10 admission scores.
Depending on the number of students registering, the Admissions Committee will set specific criteria and consider admission until the number is full. “The school’s tuition for the 2023-2024 school year remains the same as last year. For grade 10, it is about 1.3 million VND/month (full-day study); shuttle bus services, boarding, English communication, and gifted education are collected according to the agreement with parents and students. In addition, the school also provides scholarships and tuition exemptions according to regulations,” Ms. Minh Tuyet informed.
Meanwhile, for grade 10, Sky-Line Primary, Secondary and High School enrolls 3 high-quality classes and 1 integration class (bilingual). Students will participate in the Sky-Line Education System's entrance exam with basic knowledge of Math, Literature, English and direct interview (testing aptitude, skills, EQ, health). The school gives priority to direct admission to students who have achieved Excellent student results in the most recent school year (no entrance exam required).
In addition, according to the approved plan of the Department of Education and Training, the three Continuing Education Centers have a total enrollment target of 808; of which, Continuing Education Center No. 1 has 176 targets (4 classes), Continuing Education Center No. 2 has 352 targets (8 classes), Continuing Education Center No. 3 has 280 targets (7 classes). Director of Continuing Education Center No. 2 Dinh Luong Y shared that, unlike previous years, this year, the center will only consider enrollment based on the scores of the 10th grade entrance exam organized by the Department of Education and Training; the principle is to take scores from high to low until the enrollment target is met. The curriculum of this system is still built on the general knowledge framework of the Ministry of Education and Training; in addition to studying the general education program, students can register for free vocational training according to regulations.
Mr. Nguyen Van Nhu, Director of the Admissions and Employment Center, Da Nang Vocational College, also said that in recent times, the school has promoted career counseling and orientation at secondary schools in the city. In the 2023-2024 school year, the school has 600 quotas for the intermediate level (for students graduating from secondary and high schools).
“In parallel with vocational training, the school also provides supplementary cultural training and high school graduation for students with the aim of improving their qualifications in the future. In recent years, parents and students have had a different perspective on choosing a vocational path. Many students choose majors that match their abilities and interests, and have jobs right after graduation,” Mr. Nhu informed.
Mr. Mai Tan Linh, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, also acknowledged that currently, the network of public high schools in the city only meets 70% of junior high school graduates. This is also consistent with the project on Career Education and Student Orientation in General Education for the period 2019-2025 of the City People's Committee.
By 2025, strive for at least 30% of junior high school graduates to continue studying at vocational training institutions that provide vocational certificates, elementary and intermediate levels. In the city, there are currently 11 non-public high schools, 3 continuing education centers enrolling 10th grade students, in addition to colleges, intermediate schools, vocational education centers, facilities registered for vocational training activities...; meeting the learning needs according to the capacity and economic conditions of students, contributing to sharing the pressure with public schools.
