Argentina's ABC Mundial website recently published an article praising Vietnam's economic development achievements after 50 years of liberating the South and reunifying the country (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).
According to a VNA correspondent in Buenos Aires, in an article titled “Vietnam consolidates its position to become a high-income economy,” ABC Mundial commented that in just three decades, Vietnam has significantly narrowed the income gap with countries in the region and the world . Once one of the poorest countries in the world after decades of conflict, Vietnam is now one of the most remarkable examples of economic transformation in the 21st century.
With sustainable growth, ambitious policies and a long-term strategic vision, Vietnam is well on its way to becoming a high-income economy by 2045. This progress is supported by GDP growth rates ranging from 6% to 7% annually, even during challenging global years such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2024, Vietnam's economic growth will reach 7.09%. In addition, Vietnam also shows its strength in areas such as manufacturing, technology, services, construction and exports.
ABC Mundial assessed that Vietnam has become a center for attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) thanks to its open-door policy, favorable business environment, abundant and competitive workforce. Large multinational companies have established and built factories and technology centers in Vietnam, strengthening Vietnam's role in the global value chain. Today, Vietnam is one of the world's largest exporters of electronics, textiles, footwear, seafood and agricultural products.
Vietnam has also established strategic alliances through free trade agreements such as the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) or the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans- Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), which have contributed significantly to expanding markets and reducing trade barriers. These trade agreements have helped Vietnamese businesses develop, increase competitiveness and enhance foreign trade.
In addition, Vietnam has also made remarkable progress in hunger eradication, poverty reduction and social security. The poverty rate has fallen from more than 50% in the 1980s to less than 3% today. The United Nations has also recognized Vietnam as a model for sustainable development.
Vietnam aims to maintain economic growth of at least 8% by 2025 and achieve double-digit growth over the next decade. This goal is based on a comprehensive strategy that includes digital transformation, technical education, infrastructure development, innovation and environmental sustainability. It is estimated that by 2029, the size of Vietnam's economy will surpass that of major economies, including Singapore, reaching US$676 billion.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) forecasts that by 2026, Vietnam will rank fourth in GDP per capita in the ASEAN-6 group.
With political determination, social commitment and a transformative vision, Vietnam is on its way to becoming a regional and global power, reshaping the role of emerging nations in the 21st century.
ABC Mundial commented that if it continues on its current path, Vietnam will not only achieve high-income economic status by 2045 but also inspire other developing countries to follow suit./.
