For Vietnamese fans, the World Cup has long been an iconic cultural and sporting event, as well as a major focal point for multi-platform media.

To further affirm its role as the national news agency, the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) has developed a comprehensive and diverse information plan covering the FIFA World Cup 2026 Finals in various formats (text, photos, videos , graphics, podcasts, etc.) and languages to provide to the press and the public both domestically and internationally.

Providing the most diverse and engaging information.

The FIFA World Cup 2026 finals, taking place from June 11th to July 19th, 2026, is the biggest sporting event on the planet, attracting billions of viewers worldwide.

This was the first World Cup in history to be held in three countries: the United States, Canada, and Mexico. It was also the first time the number of participating teams was increased to 48, marking a significant turning point both professionally and commercially. Against a backdrop of geopolitical upheaval, this year's tournament attracted even more attention from multiple perspectives.

The Vietnam News Agency (VNA) has opened a dedicated section on the 2026 World Cup on its electronic portal at http://vnanet.vn (from May 25th to July 31st, 2026) for customers and organizations to easily access and utilize diverse content, including: introductions to participating teams; preparations by host countries and participating teams; news coverage, in-depth reports on matches, interesting side events, and stories reflecting the spirit of football; and experiences of host countries in leveraging the 2026 World Cup to attract tourists, develop tourism, and promote their culture, country, and people.

VNA's source information units, such as the World News Editorial Board, the Domestic News Editorial Board, the Photo Editorial Board, the Digital Content and Communication Center, and the Information, Documentation and Graphics Center, have also developed detailed scenarios and plans for information coverage of the 2026 World Cup.

Sharing about the preparation of information content for the 2026 World Cup, journalist Lai Thi Thanh Mai, Head of the World News Editorial Board, said: To obtain comprehensive information about the 2026 World Cup, the unit has established a dedicated editorial team (mainly experienced journalists with expertise in sports), arranged appropriate shifts to ensure timely, accurate, diverse, lively, and engaging information; planned a series of news articles on the preparations of the host countries and countries with teams participating in the 2026 World Cup; information before and after matches and rounds (summary information, various aspects of the World Cup, sideline information, etc.); the atmosphere of watching the World Cup in various countries, as well as the impact of the tournament on the economy, society, and tourism...

In addition to diverse information from VNA's resident offices in the host countries, 13 VNA resident offices in countries with football teams participating in the 2026 World Cup, including Seoul, Tokyo, Pretoria, Algiers, Prague, Geneva, Sydney, Berlin, Brussels, Cairo, Paris, Buenos Aires, and London, also promptly reflected the atmosphere of World Cup 2026 support in their respective countries.

The permanent offices in countries without teams participating in the 2026 World Cup provide information on the atmosphere surrounding the World Cup and issues related to this sporting event.

"We will also coordinate with reporters from the Sports and Culture Newspaper working directly in the host countries and with overseas bureaus to edit and publish information about the 2026 World Cup; and utilize information from relevant foreign sources to bring readers the most diverse and vivid content," journalist Lai Thi Thanh Mai added.

The Domestic News Editorial Board and VNA's resident offices in various localities across the country will also provide information reflecting on the cultural life and love of football among Vietnamese people to international friends; behind-the-scenes stories; activities of international tourists, especially those from countries with participating teams, in supporting the 2026 World Cup; as well as the efforts of local authorities and functional forces in preventing social evils such as betting and gambling related to the 2026 World Cup.

The Photo Editorial Board – the unit providing source photos from VNA – is also responsible for exploiting, editing, and publishing domestic and international photos of the 2026 World Cup taken by reporters from the Photo Editorial Board; and photos from sources of press agencies that have information exchange agreements with VNA… to provide to customers and readers.

There will be some "special" products.

Along with its network of news agencies, VNA's newspapers are also getting involved, providing detailed information about the World Cup. According to journalist Tran Viet Dung, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Sports and Culture Newspaper (VNA): Towards the FIFA World Cup 2026 – the first World Cup with 48 participating teams and held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico – the official unit is launching a large-scale media campaign called "World Cup 2026 Hotspot," with a multi-platform, multi-media content ecosystem and 24/7 updates.

According to the plan, the newspaper will publish a special edition, "FIFA World Cup 2026 News," continuously from June 9th to July 21st, 2026. Each issue will consist of 16 pages, including 11 pages dedicated to the World Cup with various sections such as: World Cup News, World Cup Movement, Expert Perspectives, World Cup Chronicles, Analysis and Commentary, and World Cup in Diverse Colors.

Beyond just updating results and on-field events, the publication also offers in-depth analysis, exclusive perspectives from experts, and stories about the culture, life, and people in the United States, Canada, and Mexico – where the World Cup will be the focus of the world.

Alongside the print version, the FIFA World Cup 2026 section on Thethaovanhoa.vn will operate as a 24/7 online World Cup information center, continuously updating match schedules, rankings, team introductions, stadium information, World Cup guides, live match coverage, commentary, expert analysis, and predictions. It will also include information about World Cup fans, fan culture, and the World Cup atmosphere in Vietnam and around the world.

The "World Cup 2026 Pulse" campaign will also promote multimedia content such as morning World Cup news bulletins, talk shows, tactical corners, highlight videos, behind-the-scenes footage, and interesting statistics to meet the modern information consumption trends of readers, broadcast on the vietnammedia.vnanet.vn website.

In addition to print and online newspapers, the 2026 World Cup will be covered across the entire digital ecosystem of Sports & Culture, including YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, and other social media platforms. Livestream content, short videos, viral moments, and behind-the-scenes footage will be updated in real time to increase interaction with fans.

A notable highlight of the campaign is the direct presence of journalist Truong Anh Ngoc (Sports and Culture Newspaper) at the hotspots of the 2026 World Cup. Accompanying him is the network of Vietnam News Agency correspondents in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, contributing to providing readers with articles, images, and videos rich in on-site experience from the biggest football event on the planet.

Sharing his experiences reporting live on major sporting events like the Euro and World Cup, journalist Truong Anh Ngoc affirmed that during a World Cup, VNA reporters may have to produce 35-40 print articles, over 50-60 videos, and over 50-60 online articles.

The work intensity was continuous for a whole month, with almost no breaks, and he only slept about 4 hours a day. “The 2026 World Cup, with 48 teams and taking place in 3 countries, created a huge challenge in terms of travel. I had to meticulously plan my schedule to be able to visit as many places as possible and ensure timeliness, despite the time zone differences.”

"As the honored representative of VNA (Vietnam News Agency) covering major world sporting events, I never allow myself to do a bad job, never miss a deadline. I must overcome all pressure to excellently complete the tasks assigned by the agency," journalist Truong Anh Ngoc shared.

To prepare for this reporting trip, journalist Truong Anh Ngoc spent about four months researching the topic, calculating costs, and developing a reporting strategy. He even wrote some outlines in advance to manage his time effectively before the event. To cope with walking 25-30 km each day in harsh weather conditions, he also had to intensify his physical training continuously for six months before setting off.

With many years of experience editing news articles about major sporting events around the world, journalist Hoang Thanh Phuong, from the World News Editorial Board, shared: The biggest difficulty when working on and editing information about major sporting events around the world is the time zone difference. Therefore, reporters and editors often have to be on duty 24/7 to promptly update "hot" information about the developments of the events, and at the same time must constantly exchange and coordinate with reporters from overseas bureaus and reporters covering the events live to produce news reports that follow the current events…

"Before every major information campaign, we are fully aware of the responsibility of the 'soldiers on the information front' and will strive our best to bring the latest and best information to VNA readers," journalist Hoang Thanh Phuong affirmed.
