"Proud of the city I love": Honoring solidarity and dedication

Member of the Politburo , Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen and about 6,000 athletes, including more than 800 journalists and press workers nationwide, participated in the "Proud of the city I love" walking and running race.

The "Proud of the City I Love" walk-run was organized by the Vietnam Journalists Association in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City Journalists Association, with the support of the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Agribank) and Nexus Media Joint Stock Company. This is one of the exciting activities to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025).

Speaking at the opening ceremony, journalist Tran Trong Dung, Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, said: "The tournament is not only a healthy sports playground but also a symbol, honoring the spirit of solidarity and dedication of revolutionary journalists over the past century. Not only praising and expressing gratitude for the silent but extremely great contributions of the revolutionary journalists, this event also aims to arouse honor and pride for all citizens, including journalists, who were born and raised in our beloved Ho Chi Minh City."

Participating in the "Proud of the city I love" walking and running race were Politburo member, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen and about 6,000 athletes. After completing the walking competition, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen sent his congratulations to the press team nationwide on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day. On this occasion, the Secretary of the Party Committee also outlined some important development orientations of the city, especially from July 1, Ho Chi Minh City will officially implement the 2-level local government model on the basis of adjusting the administrative boundaries related to the 2 provinces of Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau.

"We are grateful to the generations who built and developed the city to have these happy days. Each of us has the duty and responsibility to continue building the city to be more beautiful, more civilized, more modern, and more humane in the future" - Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen emphasized.

The "Proud of the City I Love" competition includes competition distances such as 5 km, 10 km, 21 km and 3.5 km walking, starting from Le Loi Street (District 1) and ending in Thu Thiem area (Thu Duc City). The running route passes through many historical landmarks and landscapes of the city. The total value of the prizes is nearly 400 million VND. In addition to professional awards, the Organizing Committee also awarded prizes to journalists with the best achievements in each distance.

Not only a sports festival, the "Proud of the City I Love" Walking and Running Race also spreads a profound humanitarian spirit through a donation program to support victims of Agent Orange/dioxin. At the award ceremony, representatives of Agribank and Vietcombank donated a total of VND 700 million to the Ho Chi Minh City Association of Victims of Agent Orange.

On the occasion of the "Proud of the city I love" walking and running competition, the Organizing Committee proposed to the Vietnam Record Organization to recognize the record for the sports competition with the largest number of journalists and people working in the press field participating, with 802 people.

Men: 1. Nguyen Dinh Thu (Southeast Asia Magazine) 2. Ngo Cong Quang (Journalist and Public Opinion) 3. Nguyen Van Tinh (Journalist and Public Opinion).
