BHG - After 100 years since President Ho Chi Minh founded the revolutionary Vietnamese press (June 21, 1925 - 2025), the press force in our country has continuously grown stronger and made important contributions to the country's development process.

These days, Vietnamese journalists are joyfully celebrating the 100th anniversary of Vietnam's Revolutionary Press Day; this is truly a traditional festival for press agencies and journalists – soldiers on the cultural and ideological front of the Party. In anticipation of this event, every journalist is excited about the country's development and also deeply proud of the glorious historical tradition that has always inspired and empowered generations of journalists to overcome difficulties and fulfill the mission entrusted to them by the Party, the State, and the People.

On June 21, 1925, in Guangzhou, China, the Thanh Nien (Youth) newspaper – the official mouthpiece of the Vietnam Revolutionary Youth League, founded by leader Nguyen Ai Quoc – published its first issue. Since then, June 21st has become a golden milestone in the history of Vietnamese revolutionary journalism. Historical documents about the early days of its formation and operation reveal immense difficulties and hardships, but also a great sense of pride. After many years of activity in France and the Soviet Union, in late 1924, Nguyen Ai Quoc secretly arrived in Guangzhou (China) to engage in revolutionary activities. There, he organized the publication of the Thanh Nien newspaper, both directing its work and directly writing numerous news articles for it.

Initially, the newspaper was published weekly. Later, due to various printing difficulties, the interval between issues could be 3 or 5 weeks. Because this was the first revolutionary newspaper published in China by leader Nguyen Ai Quoc to send back to Vietnam and other places, the layout and printing were entirely manual, with a limited number of copies. Meanwhile, secretly transporting the newspaper back to the country and delivering it to Party branches was fraught with difficulties and dangers. Not to mention that the branches had to hide the newspaper to prevent it from falling into the hands of French secret agents...

Looking back at the glorious 100-year journey of Vietnamese revolutionary journalism, we cannot help but feel deeply moved by these proud golden pages of history. From the secret newspapers born amidst the flames of the national liberation struggle, defying enemy repression, to the newspapers carrying calls to action, awakening the nation in the cause of national construction and defense... revolutionary journalism has always been a sharp weapon on the ideological and cultural front. With their incisive pens, passionate hearts, and tireless dedication, generations of Vietnamese journalists have made significant contributions to the victory of the revolutionary cause, arousing patriotism, self-reliance, encouraging national unity, and urging the entire country to overcome all hardships and sacrifices to achieve independence, freedom, peace , and unification. Renowned newspapers and talented journalists have become symbols and role models of unwavering loyalty, courage, and a desire to contribute to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation.

Recently, the national scientific conference "100 Years of Vietnamese Revolutionary Journalism Accompanying the Glorious Cause of the Party and the Nation" was held, once again highlighting the role of Vietnamese journalism, from its traditional to its modern forms, a role that is truly something to be proud of. At this conference, Party and State leaders, journalists, and researchers all affirmed that Vietnamese revolutionary journalism has continuously asserted its role as a pioneering force on the ideological and cultural front. From its early days, journalism has actively encouraged innovation, fostered creative thinking, celebrated new factors and models, and spread the spirit of creative labor and competition to all strata of the people. More than just a means of communication, journalism also serves as a bridge between the Party, the State, and the people, guiding public opinion and building social consensus.

“With an objective and multifaceted approach, the press has truthfully and vividly reflected social life across the country; promptly highlighting pressing issues such as poverty reduction, environment, education, health, social security, administrative reform, and the fight against corruption, waste, and negative phenomena; playing a role in social supervision and criticism, identifying bottlenecks in management and policy implementation, and making relevant recommendations to help the Party and State promptly adjust and improve institutions and laws,” affirmed Professor, Doctor Nguyen Xuan Thang - Member of the Politburo, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, and Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council.

In the joyous spirit of journalists, we remember President Ho Chi Minh, the brilliant leader of the nation, the mentor of Vietnamese revolutionary journalism, who left behind a vast legacy that we need to continue to explore and learn from. President Ho Chi Minh clearly stated the principles and objectives of Vietnamese revolutionary journalism: "Our press must serve the working people, serve socialism, serve the struggle for national reunification, and serve world peace."

President Ho Chi Minh considered journalists to be revolutionary fighters, "the pen and paper are their sharp weapons," therefore "Journalists are also revolutionary fighters."

Bearing in mind the teachings of President Ho Chi Minh, journalists in Ha Giang today are always proud of their glorious and heroic 100-year tradition and pledge to "constantly cultivate revolutionary ethics, refine their ideology, study politics to firmly grasp the Party and State's guidelines and policies, delve into reality, connect deeply with the working masses, always improve their cultural level, hone their professional skills, sharpen their pens; and especially cultivate a firm political stance."

ADVANCE FORWARD
