In the previous 5 matches, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team won 3 and lost 2 against Taiwan. In 3 of those matches, the two teams had to play 5 "breathtaking" games to determine the winner. Most recently, in the group stage of ASIAD 2018, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team lost 2-3 to their opponents.

In this rematch, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team is considered slightly better, but coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet said: "We have to be very careful against our opponents. Taiwan is a team with cohesion and smoothness because they have been coached by Japanese experts for the past 10 years and also possess high-class hitters."

Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet also reported good news for the team as no one had any injuries or health problems. The Vietnamese players also improved their coordination through each match at the tournament. What Coach Tuan Kiet expects is for the whole team to be mentally comfortable and to maximize their abilities. Striker Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, born in 1997 and currently playing in Japan, continues to be the face expected to shine in the Vietnamese women's team.
