The Tu Luong Xam relic site has been classified as a National Monument since 1986 and was recognized as a Special National Monument in 2025. The traditional Tu Luong Xam festival has been inscribed as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage.

By this point, all preparations for the opening ceremony have been basically completed on schedule. Local people are well aware that this is not simply an annual festival, but an occasion to pay tribute to the ancestors who laid the foundation for national independence.

Tu Luong Xam is a special national historical site, dedicated to King Ngo Quyen, the national hero who led the army and people to victory in the Battle of Bach Dang in 938, ushering in a long era of independence and self-reliance for the Vietnamese nation. More than a thousand years have passed, yet the echoes of that victory still resonate in this sacred space at the seaport. Therefore, the traditional Tu Luong Xam festival is not only a cultural and spiritual activity, but also an opportunity to affirm the principle of remembering one's roots and fostering patriotism for present and future generations.

2026 also marks the first year the festival will be held under a two-tiered local government model. Initial difficulties are inevitable... from coordinating forces and assigning tasks to ensuring smooth communication. However, with a proactive and responsible spirit, the entire political system of Dong Hai ward has joined forces in a coordinated manner. Plans to ensure security, order, and safety for residents and tourists have been thoroughly reviewed multiple times. The common goal is to organize the festival solemnly and meticulously, leaving a positive impression on the people and visitors from all over.
Alongside the ceremonial preparations, landscaping and infrastructure improvements were carried out urgently. The historical site grounds were thoroughly cleaned, trees were added, and flags, banners, and slogans were displayed, creating a vibrant atmosphere while maintaining the inherent solemnity of the sacred space. The main stage for the opening ceremony was designed according to the festival theme, ensuring aesthetics and harmony with the historical site's architecture. The stage frame, sound system, and lighting were installed according to technical requirements, and electrical safety was checked multiple times before handover. All construction items were carried out cautiously, respecting the value of the historical site to the fullest extent... because here, every brick, every roof tile is connected to the depth of history.
During the four days of the festival, from March 2nd to March 5th, 2026 (corresponding to the 14th to 17th days of the first lunar month of the Year of the Horse), in addition to the solemn ceremonies with traditional incense offerings, rituals, and processions, the festivities will offer many cultural and artistic activities, sports, and unique folk games. It's an opportunity for people to immerse themselves in the festive atmosphere of the spring festival, for the community to become more united, and for traditions to be continued with quiet yet enduring pride.
The Tu Luong Xam historical site is located in Dong Hai ward, Hai Phong city. Legend says that in preparation for the Battle of Bach Dang in 938, King Ngo Quyen chose a strategic location to directly supervise the construction of the stake field, deploy forces, and organize an ambush to annihilate the invading Southern Han army. King Ngo Quyen chose this place as a storage location for provisions and as his headquarters to observe and command the historic Battle of Bach Dang.
With the historic Battle of Bạch Đằng in 938, King Ngô Quyền achieved a great and immortal victory, inscribing a glorious chapter in the thousand-year history of our nation's founding, creating a great historical turning point and permanently ending more than a thousand years of "Northern domination."
The Tu Luong Xam complex is one of the famous sacred temples of Dong Hai ward, revered as the "Chief Temple" - the leading place of worship for King Ngo Quyen, a historical testament to the Battle of Bach Dang Giang that "resounded through the ages," leaving behind many great historical values for posterity. In 1986, the Tu Luong Xam complex was classified as a national historical and cultural relic by the Ministry of Culture and Information (now the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism). In 2022, the traditional Tu Luong Xam festival was included in the list of national intangible cultural heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. In 2025, the Tu Luong Xam complex - the headquarters of Ngo Quyen in 938 - was classified as a special national relic by the Prime Minister.
