Mr. Mai Van Khiem, Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, commented: "From now until October 2025, it is expected that there will be about 6-8 storms/tropical depressions operating in the East Sea, of which about 2-3 storms are likely to directly affect our mainland. From November to December 2025, there may be 2-3 more storms/tropical depressions, of which about 1-2 storms are likely to make landfall."
About heavy rain and floods
From the second half of July to September 2025, the North, North Central, Central Highlands and South are likely to experience prolonged moderate and heavy rains. The Central region should pay special attention to the possibility of unusually heavy rains during the changing seasons, especially unseasonal rains or localized heavy rains.
The rainy season in the Central region this year is forecast to concentrate mainly in October, November and the first half of December 2025, coinciding with the period of strong storm activity, tropical depressions and bad weather passing through the Central region.
Flood peaks on major rivers in the Northern region are forecast at levels 1 to 2; small and upstream rivers reach levels 2-3; rivers from Thanh Hoa to Lam Dong are generally at levels 2-3, on some small rivers and upstream rivers exceed level 3.
For rivers from Quang Tri to Lam Dong, major floods are likely to concentrate in October and November 2025, and late floods are likely to appear at the end of the year, coinciding with the water accumulation period in the Central region.
In the Mekong River basin, this year's flood peak is forecast to be equivalent to the average of many years. The flood peak water level at Tan Chau and Chau Doc (upstream of the Mekong River) is expected to be at alert level 1, while downstream stations may reach alert level 2-3, or even exceed alert level 3.
The Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said: "The heat wave is likely to continue to appear in the Central region in the second half of July and last until August 2025, however, the intensity tends to decrease gradually from now until September. At the end of the year, cold air will begin to operate from September to October 2025 and increase in intensity and frequency from November 2025. The phenomenon of severe cold and widespread cold in the Northern region is likely to appear at a level equivalent to the average of many years in the same period (around the second half of December 2025). It is necessary to be on guard against the possibility of frost and ice in the high mountainous areas of the Northern region."
