Despite having been present in the fields for more than a decade, this technology still plays an important role in the mechanization and modernization of rice production in many localities.

Determine the elevation of the field surface that needs to be leveled.
Technology helps improve accuracy in farming.
Laser leveling is a technique that uses an automated positioning and control system to adjust the field surface height with high precision. The system consists of a laser emitter to create a standard level, a signal receiver mounted on the tractor, and an automatic leveling bucket control device.
During operation, laser signals are continuously transmitted to the controller to automatically adjust the height of the leveling bucket according to the established plane. As a result, the field surface achieves near-perfect flatness, with a height error of less than 1 cm - a level of accuracy that traditional leveling methods can hardly achieve.
It brings many practical benefits.
According to experts, leveling rice fields using lasers offers many benefits in rice production.
Leveling the fields allows for the even distribution of irrigation water and nutrients, thereby reducing water usage by 20-30% compared to unlevelled fields. This is a suitable solution given the increasingly limited water resources for production due to the impact of climate change.
In addition, efficient water management helps reduce the amount of seeds sown, saving on fertilizers and pesticides. Rice plants grow more uniformly, reducing pests and diseases, thereby contributing to lower production costs for farmers.
This technology also facilitates synchronized mechanization in production. Rice transplanters, seeders, and combine harvesters can operate stably, reducing the risk of getting stuck in mud or operating inefficiently due to uneven field surfaces.
Furthermore, uniform rice growth and concentrated ripening help reduce post-harvest losses and improve rice grain quality. Reducing the use of fertilizers and pesticides also contributes to protecting soil and water resources, moving towards green and sustainable agriculture .

Level the field surface after laser positioning.
The effectiveness is clearly demonstrated in actual production.
Due to the practical benefits it brings, the Provincial Agricultural Extension and Services Center has implemented many integrated intensive farming techniques throughout the province, including supporting the use of certified rice seeds and laser-leveling of rice fields. Participating farmers receive 50% support for the cost of purchasing certified rice seeds and 50% support for laser-leveling services (maximum support of 5.5 million VND/ha).
Practical models have shown that laser-based land leveling technology yields significant results. After implementation, farmers save approximately 20% on water pumping costs, reduce fertilizer costs by 10%, and increase rice yields by 5–10% compared to traditional farming methods.
Leveling farmland using laser technology not only improves production efficiency but also encourages farmers to confidently adopt mechanization and technological advancements in cultivation.
Foundation for modern agriculture
According to experts, laser-leveling of farmland is not just a technical solution, but also a crucial foundation for the transition to smart agriculture.
Flat farmlands allow drones, water level sensors, and autonomous machinery to operate more accurately and efficiently. This is considered a crucial infrastructure foundation for promoting digital transformation in agriculture.
At the same time, this technology also effectively supports the "Alternating Wetting and Drying" (AWD) technique, contributing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions in rice production and adapting to climate change.
It can be affirmed that laser-based land leveling is becoming a fundamental solution to improve production efficiency, reduce input costs, and increase the competitiveness of Vietnamese rice, while contributing to building a sustainable agricultural development in the future.
