Vietnam is a multi-ethnic and multi-religious country, but there are no ethnic and religious conflicts in Vietnam. That is thanks to the depth of Vietnamese culture, but in the recent period, it is also the contribution and creativity of the Communist Party of Vietnam. From Ho Chi Minh's thought on great national unity, the Communist Party of Vietnam has creatively applied it to the practice of the Vietnamese revolution. The correct line of the Communist Party of Vietnam on national unity has led the Vietnamese people to overcome difficulties and challenges, gain independence and freedom, unify the Fatherland and build the country in peace .

After nearly 40 years of national renovation, Vietnam has made great strides in all aspects of social life, from economic growth rate (GDP), per capita income, cultural and social aspects, poverty rate, average life expectancy... All of these great achievements were created by the great creativity of the People, combined by the spirit of solidarity and creativity under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam .
To strengthen and promote the strength of national solidarity, since the country's renovation, the Communist Party of Vietnam has issued many directives and resolutions on gathering and taking care of the interests of all social classes. Almost all social classes have received the Party's attention and issued directives and resolutions to take care of the interests and mobilize the social classes. Resolutions and directives include: Resolution 23-NQ/TW of the 7th Conference of the Central Executive Committee (9th tenure) on promoting the strength of national solidarity for a rich people, a strong country, a fair, democratic and civilized society; Resolution 20-NQ/TW on building the working class; Resolution No. 43-NQ/TW dated November 24, 2023, the 8th Conference of the 13th Party Central Committee on continuing to promote the tradition and strength of great national unity, building our country to be increasingly prosperous and happy... All of these policies have truly come into life, contributing to building a great unity bloc on the basis of the alliance between the working class, the peasantry and the intelligentsia, creating social consensus for the development of the country and for the happiness of the people.
The 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam continues to affirm that the Party's leadership is the flag that gathers the strength of the great national unity to strive for a Vietnam of "rich people, strong country, democracy, fairness and civilization". In reality, there are more and more manifestations and problems that have significantly affected the great national unity bloc. These are the degradation of political ideology of a number of cadres and party members; corruption and waste; the increasingly widening gap between rich and poor; the violation of democracy, especially at the grassroots level,... causing discontent among the people; seriously and directly affecting the prestige of the Party, the State and the close relationship between the Party, the State and the people as well as the consolidation, enhancement and expansion of the great national unity bloc. The gap between rich and poor between regions and in society is growing larger. All of the above-mentioned shortcomings have significantly affected the great national unity. In addition, hostile forces at home and abroad continue to take advantage of the above shortcomings, exploiting issues of democracy, human rights, and religion to interfere in the situation in Vietnam with the intention of undermining national unity.
At the 13th National Congress, the Party determined the goal of the Vietnamese revolution in the current period as: "Promoting the will and strength of great national unity combined with the strength of the times; comprehensively and synchronously promoting the renovation, industrialization and modernization process; firmly defending the Fatherland, maintaining a peaceful and stable environment; striving to make our country a developed country, following a socialist orientation by the middle of the 21st century". The Congress also affirmed: "Strongly arousing the spirit of patriotism, the will of national self-reliance, the strength of great national unity and the aspiration to develop a prosperous and happy country". Remember, right when the Democratic Republic of Vietnam was born, in his speech at the Conference on Production and Famine Relief, Ho Chi Minh pointed out: “... There is a proverb: “People take food as heaven”, meaning that people take food as heaven, if there is no food, there is no heaven. There is also a saying: “Only with food can one uphold morality”, meaning that without food, nothing can be done. Therefore, the policy of the Party and the Government is to take utmost care of the people's lives. If the people are hungry, the Party and the Government are at fault; if the people are cold, the Party and the Government are at fault; if the people are ignorant, the Party and the Government are at fault; if the people are sick, the Party and the Government are at fault”.
The reason why people believe in and follow the Party is because the Party and the State have issued and implemented policies and strategies that meet the legitimate interests and aspirations of the people. When people have faith and love, the people will certainly form a solid, united bloc around the Party and the State. However, the problem is how to make people believe and love. During his lifetime, in the article "How to win the hearts of the people" published in the National Salvation Newspaper No. 65 on October 12, 1945, President Ho Chi Minh affirmed: "If you want people to love and win the hearts of the people, you must do your best to do what is beneficial to the people and avoid what is harmful to the people." This is an obvious truth, but not many people have done it well. In particular, Ho Chi Minh believed that the measure of people's love for the Party is in very practical things, not in lofty theories. In his speech at the first meeting of the National Planning Research Committee, President Ho Chi Minh affirmed: We have won freedom and independence, but if people still starve and freeze to death, freedom and independence are useless. People only know the value of freedom and independence when they have enough to eat and wear. We must immediately: Provide food for the people. Provide clothing for the people. Provide housing for the people. Provide education for the people. When writing his Will, he also reminded: "The Party must have a good plan to develop the economy and culture, in order to continuously improve the people's lives."
To promote the strength of national unity, first of all, the Party and the State must issue and implement policies that ensure the legitimate interests and aspirations of the people. Take care of economic development, hunger eradication, poverty reduction, and regional harmony in development, especially paying attention to investing in important transport works to connect regions throughout the country, with special attention paid to disadvantaged regions such as the Northwest, Central Highlands, and Southwest.
In his letter to the people of the South, President Ho Chi Minh wrote: “I advise my compatriots to unite closely and broadly. The five fingers of the hand include short and long fingers. But short and long are all gathered in the palm of the hand. Among millions of people, there are people like this and like that, but like this or like that, they are all descendants of our ancestors. Therefore, we must be tolerant and magnanimous. We must admit that, as children of Lac and descendants of Hong, everyone has more or less patriotism. For those compatriots who have gone astray, we must use affection to influence them. Only then can we achieve great unity, and with great unity, the future will certainly be glorious.” Continuing this ideology, Resolution No. 43-NQ/TW dated November 24, 2023, the 8th Conference of the 13th Party Central Committee on continuing to promote the tradition and strength of great national unity, building our country to be increasingly prosperous and happy emphasized: “Great national unity is a precious tradition, an important and consistent strategic line of the Party; a great source of strength, a decisive factor in the victory of the cause of building and defending the Fatherland. The solid foundation of great national unity is the alliance between the working class, the peasantry and the intelligentsia led by the Party; the strong relationship between the Party and the People, the People's trust in the Party, the State and the regime; solidarity within the Party, solidarity between social strata, between the community of Vietnamese ethnic groups, between religious and non-religious compatriots, between people of different religions, between Vietnamese people at home and abroad; solidarity between the Vietnamese people and peace-loving, progressive people in the world".
The great national unity takes the goal of maintaining the independence and unity of the Fatherland, for a rich people, a strong country, a fair, democratic and civilized society as a common point, eliminating inferiority complex, prejudice and discrimination about the past, components and classes, building a spirit of openness, mutual trust, and looking towards the future. The entire political system must always thoroughly grasp this spirit to consolidate and strengthen the building of the great national unity bloc for the common goal of placing national and ethnic interests above all else.
Throughout his life, President Ho Chi Minh did his utmost for the great unity of all ethnic groups and religions. In the current context, when hostile forces take advantage of religious and ethnic issues to sabotage the cause of great national unity, the Party and the State need to pay more specific attention to this issue. In particular, the State needs to quickly institutionalize and concretize the Party's guidelines into policies and laws and quickly put these policies into practice. It is necessary to thoroughly grasp the consistent principle throughout the entire political system of respecting citizens' freedom of belief and religion, creating conditions for religions to practice and propagate their religion in accordance with the law. It is strictly forbidden to take advantage of religion to sabotage, but it is also strictly forbidden to disparage religion.
