Vietnam Green Building Week 2023 is chaired by the Ministry of Construction in coordination with ministries, branches, localities, agencies, organizations, associations, and businesses in the fields of production, services, construction, energy saving and efficiency, and green building development with official events taking place on September 28 in Ho Chi Minh City.
The theme of Green Building Week 2023 is “Green building development promotes green transformation in the construction industry: Opportunities and challenges” chaired by the Ministry of Construction.
The event has the collaboration and coordination of international agencies and organizations such as the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the International Finance Corporation of the World Bank Group (IFC-WB), the Asian Development Bank (ADB) ... The Department of Science, Technology and Environment - Ministry of Construction together with IEC Consulting is the focal unit for organizing. Vietnam Green Building Week 2023 includes a series of conferences, seminars, talks, capacity building training courses, and student green architecture competitions held in many localities across the country.
At the official session of Vietnam Green Building Week 2023, Deputy Minister of Construction - Nguyen Tuong Van said: Vietnam does not have mandatory regulations applicable to green buildings, the development of green buildings is carried out voluntarily and encouraged. After more than 15 years of development, the number of green buildings in Vietnam has reached about 300 projects with a total floor area of about 7.2 million m2. Ho Chi Minh City ranks first in the country in the number of green buildings with 67 projects and second in the floor area of green buildings certified with a total certified floor area of 1.264 million m2. Green building types have expanded from office buildings, headquarters to hotels, shopping malls, schools, industrial factories, etc. Although the number of green buildings has increased significantly every year, compared to the total number of buildings built every year, this number is still quite modest, requiring more efforts to strongly promote the development of green buildings in the coming time. The development of green buildings will simultaneously promote green architectural and interior design solutions, promote the development of products, electromechanical equipment, green building materials, reduce water consumption, resources for construction and operation of buildings, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to promoting green transformation in the construction industry.
Vietnam Green Building Week 2023 has the participation of many domestic and international organizations and individuals operating in the construction sector and other related fields such as energy and environment. The Deputy Minister of Construction hopes that based on the presentations and discussions, delegates will focus on exchanging, sharing information, experiences and making recommendations and solutions on policy mechanisms, technical standards and regulations, incentive mechanisms, green credit, green finance, etc. to create favorable conditions, remove barriers, and strongly promote the development of green buildings in many types, levels, and scales of works in all localities nationwide. In the context of the world suffering from extreme weather phenomena, the impact of climate change, resource depletion, lack of energy supply, pressure from population growth and rapid urbanization, countries around the world, including Vietnam, are orienting their development policies towards green, smart, low-emission and sustainable development.
In Vietnam, the policies of the Party, State, National Assembly and Government are consistent in the viewpoint and goal of economic development must be associated with environmental protection, economical and efficient use of energy and resources, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, and ensuring human health. Along with the world's green transformation trend after COP 26, many enterprises and investors in Vietnam in general and in the construction sector in particular have developed and implemented specific plans and solutions to develop enterprises in a green direction, with low emissions and towards carbon neutrality as the target by 2050 that the Government has committed to. However, to achieve the above goal, there are still many challenges, requiring determined efforts and specific, practical and effective actions from all relevant parties.
The Green Building Week 2023 event is an opportunity for policy makers, experts, businesses, consulting firms, banks, agencies, international organizations and those working in the construction sector to come together to discuss solutions to promote green transformation in the construction industry through 1 Plenary Session and 4 thematic workshops: Topic 1: Developing green factories, green offices, green buildings - aiming to improve the quality of living and working spaces; Topic 2: Trends in using green, energy-saving and environmentally friendly materials; Topic 3: Application of advanced equipment and technology, aiming at modern, smart, environmentally friendly construction works, low emissions and ensuring convenience for users; Topic 4: Green finance, green credit - Driving force for sustainable development.
