Exciting boat racing to celebrate Independence Day on the Perfume River

On September 2, the Department of Culture and Sports of Hue City organized the 36th traditional boat race on the Huong River to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025).

This year’s traditional boat race in Hue City gathered 10 boat teams with more than 300 male and female athletes from riverside localities in the city. Each racing team consisted of 10 rowers and 1 steersman, competing in 10 races with the contents of offering prizes, money prizes and breaking prizes.

People standing on the banks of the Perfume River cheered and encouraged the boat racing teams.

The rowers competed fiercely, bringing dramatic and exciting chases. Tens of thousands of people stood on the banks of the Huong River to cheer on the boat racing teams. At the end of the race, the Organizing Committee awarded the first prize to the boat team of Hoa Chau ward, the second prize to the boat team of Huong Tra ward, and the third prize to the boat team of Thuan An ward.

Having been maintained for the past 36 years, the traditional boat race on the Perfume River organized by Hue City on September 2nd has become a trademark of Hue. This activity not only celebrates the National Day but also creates an exciting, united atmosphere, encouraging the spirit of work, study and dedication.

The organizing committee awarded the first prize to the boat team of Hoa Chau ward, Hue city.

Boat racing is a traditional community sport and cultural activity. For generations, Hue people have maintained the boat racing festival as an opportunity to unite the community, improve health, and demonstrate martial spirit. This is not only a water sport but also a cultural symbol, closely associated with the lives of residents along the Perfume River.
