Immediately after the flood, the health sector of Tuyen Quang province focused on disinfecting and sterilizing public places in Ha Giang 1 ward.

Prolonged heavy rains caused floodwaters to rise, inundating residential areas, schools, offices and many roads, causing great damage to property and affecting people's lives.

After the water recedes, a large amount of garbage, mud, and domestic waste accumulated during the flooding period is generated. This is a favorable condition for infectious pathogens to develop, with the risk of an epidemic outbreak.

In recent days, Tuyen Quang province has deployed many synchronous solutions to proactively clean the environment, disinfect and sterilize on a large scale, with the motto "where the water recedes, the environment will be treated there".

Communes and wards have resolutely directed the general cleaning of the environment, waste treatment, sewer dredging, garbage collection, combined with spraying disinfectants and sterilization in residential areas, schools, medical stations, markets, bus stations and areas at high risk of epidemics.

Along with that, promote propaganda and raise people's awareness in proactively cleaning houses, water sources, and living areas after floods, ensuring a safe living environment and preventing the risk of disease outbreaks.

Since October 2, the Center for Disease Control of Tuyen Quang province has carried out a general cleaning, disinfection and sterilization campaign in localities severely affected by floods. The focus is on Ha Giang 1 and Ha Giang 2 wards and other localities deeply submerged in water.

The Center has mobilized maximum human resources, coordinated with on-site medical forces to spray disinfectants on main roads, public areas, schools, bus stations, agencies and households affected by floods.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Huong, Director of the Center for Disease Control of Tuyen Quang province, said that the unit has proactively prepared enough materials and chemicals to serve the disinfection and sterilization work, with more than 3 tons of Cloramin B provided, the Center for Disease Control used and distributed to localities. In addition, the unit has allocated more than 153,000 Aquatabs tablets to distribute to people in flooded areas, helping to treat domestic water sources, ensuring health safety, and preventing diseases transmitted through the digestive tract.

General cleaning, disinfection and sterilization are not only focused on public areas but also deployed to each household. Grassroots health workers coordinate with local authorities to go to households to instruct people on how to mix chemicals in the right dosage and how to treat clean water.

“Disease prevention and control measures are being implemented vigorously, with the goal of preventing outbreaks after floods. In particular, special attention is paid to diseases that are likely to arise after floods such as: pink eye, respiratory diseases, skin fungus, flu, dengue fever, and gastrointestinal diseases,” Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Huong emphasized.

The focus on cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing after floods has reduced the risk of disease outbreaks. Up to now, no outbreaks of disease have been recorded in flooded areas in Tuyen Quang province.
