According to Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong, in 2025, the number of candidates registering for their first choice in STEM majors will reach 222,454, an increase of 41,881 candidates compared to the previous year.
Computer science and information technology majors have 54,359 candidates registering for their first choice (the candidate's highest priority choice), an increase of 2,183 candidates compared to the first round in 2024. Artificial intelligence majors also attracted strong interest with 2,754 candidates registering, far exceeding the previous year.

Mr. Thuong said that the Ministry of Education and Training recognized that this is a signal showing that the trend of choosing majors related to the semiconductor industry is becoming increasingly clear, reflecting the growing interest of society in this key technology field.
The Ministry is actively coordinating with universities and businesses at home and abroad to create spaces, seminars, and forums to exchange experiences on semiconductor chips and train human resources.
In addition to the achieved results, the Ministry of Education and Training recognizes some current difficulties, especially the uneven capacity and experience in semiconductor training at many domestic universities, and the lack of an extensive academic, technological and international cooperation ecosystem.
To overcome this, the Ministry proposed to strengthen international cooperation in developing training programs, sending lecturers and students for exchange to learn from the experiences of advanced countries. At the same time, it emphasized the need for a coordination mechanism between domestic universities to avoid fragmentation and dispersion of resources, thereby forming a stronger and more effective training ecosystem for the semiconductor industry.
The Ministry of Education and Training also recommended that the Ministry of Finance promptly appraise and approve nine laboratory projects that have been submitted since the end of 2024. These are projects that play an important role in supporting practice, research and in-depth human resource training, helping students and lecturers access new technologies right in the learning environment.
This year continues to mark the increasingly strong return of the pedagogical sector. Associate Professor Dr. Tran Thanh Nam, Vice Principal of the University of Education (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) said that the school recorded more than 50,000 registrations, double that of last year.
Therefore, the benchmark scores for the education sector this year are expected to not decrease, and may even increase. Associate Professor Tran Thanh Nam explained that the current attraction of the education sector is due to the state's new policies for teachers such as Decree 116 on tuition and living expenses support for education students; teachers' salaries are ranked at the highest scale; the Law on Teachers takes effect from January 1, 2026...
Hanoi National University of Education has also received 1.7 times more applications for the pedagogical major group this year than last year.
