The Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the USD against six major currencies (EUR, JPY, GBP, CAD, SEK, CHF), stopped at 100.45 - up 1.04 points compared to May 8, 2025.

US President Donald Trump announced a “groundbreaking” trade deal with Britain at an Oval Office press conference on Thursday, although he said some terms were still being finalised.
“This agreement could become a template for other countries looking to sign trade agreements with the US,” said Steve Englander, global head of G10 currency research at Standard Chartered in New York.
“Getting a deal that looks doable would be positive for the market. I think the market will look closely at what was announced and ask how much of it is applicable to other countries, or whether it will become a template for future deals,” he added.
President Trump also said he expects substantive talks between the United States and China when U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer meet with China's National Development and Reform Commission Chairman He Liping in Switzerland on Saturday.
The dollar rose against the yen after Trump's announcement, rising 0.98% to 145.185 yen. Against the Swiss franc, the dollar also rose 0.48% to 0.8275 franc.
The dollar index, which measures the greenback against a basket of currencies including the yen and the euro, rose 0.41% to 100.31, marking its second straight session of gains. The euro fell 0.33% to $1.1262.
The US dollar also gained against the Swedish and Norwegian currencies after the central banks of Sweden (Riksbank) and Norway (Norges Bank) decided to keep interest rates unchanged, as expected. The Swedish krona fell 0.41% to 9.6984 krona/dollar, while the Norwegian krona fell 0.43% to 10.3833 krona/dollar.
In the cryptocurrency sector, bitcoin rose 4.69% to $101,312.68, while Ethereum surged 14.47% to $2,058.62.
