Competition ratio for grade 10 of Social Sciences and Humanities High School

The competition rate for admission to 10th grade at the High School for Social Sciences and Humanities in 2023 has increased compared to last year, the highest in the Literature class at 1/14.7.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Quang Lieu, principal of the High School for the Gifted in Social Sciences and Humanities, said on May 15 that the Literature class had 970 students registered - the highest number ever. With a quota of 66, this class has a competition ratio of 1/14.7, up from 1/9 last year. Thus, for every 15 candidates, only one is admitted.

The two History and Geography specialized classes recruited 35 students each, receiving 317 and 292 applications respectively, with competition ratios of 1/9.05 and 1/8.3, also increasing compared to 2022.

The total number of candidates registered for the school is 1,579, the quota is 136.

In addition to 136 quotas for three specialized classes, the school also recruits 34 high-quality students.

Candidates must take four written tests, including Literature, Math, English and a specialized subject. The Literature and specialized subject tests are in essay format, with test times of 90 and 150 minutes, respectively. Candidates take a multiple-choice test in Math for 50 minutes and in English for 45 minutes. All take place on June 4. The registration and exam fee is 460,000 VND.

The admission score is the total score of all subjects on a 10-point scale, with the specialized subject multiplied by a factor of two. The school does not add priority points in admission and does not consider direct admission.

The results of the admission to specialized classes will be announced before July 1. For the high-quality class, the school will recruit candidates who did not pass the specialized program, have a score of 4 or higher in each subject, and have registered for admission to the high-quality class. The admission score for this class is the sum of the three general subjects, not including the specialized subject.

The High School for the Gifted in Social Sciences and Humanities was established in October 2019. This is the fourth high school under the Vietnam National University, Hanoi, under the direct management of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

Last year, the High School for the Gifted in Social Sciences and Humanities recruited 180 students, attracting more than 1,000 candidates. The benchmark score for the Literature class was 33.5, the two Geography and History classes were 28.5 and 28 respectively, averaging 5.6-6.7 points per subject.
