Tyrell Malacia makes a U-turn and joins PSV on loan.

Việt NamViệt Nam04/02/2025

The first Manchester United star to leave under Amorim 584629 has been revealed.

The Dutch full-back was rumored to be moving to Benfica on loan last week, however, the deal with the Portuguese club fell through due to disagreements over the terms and fee.

Instead, he will join PSV Eindhoven, according to Joost Blaauwhof from Voetbal International. Malacia will undergo a mandatory medical examination in the next few hours before officially signing with PSV, with all procedures likely to be completed urgently before the winter transfer window closes. Malacia will have few other options and must move quickly to stabilize his career and begin the recovery process, trying to rediscover his form.

The Dutch player has also recently gone through a difficult period at Old Trafford since his transfer to Feyenoord in 2022, facing numerous off-field issues and receiving considerable criticism and scrutiny. The defender has also been constantly sidelined by injuries, and the opportunities he's been given haven't been ideal, as it's believed his understanding of the manager's philosophy is somewhat inconsistent, with Malacia showing a less-than-complete attacking and defensive capability. Clearly, health problems combined with his inability to work smoothly under the Portuguese manager have forced a parting of ways, as he and the club are now at an age where he can play at the highest level consistently, rather than burying his career during this transitional period. Besides the involvement of the new manager in the club's revolution, it's clear that the scouts of Manchester United, or any team whose players were prematurely released, find this extremely unacceptable under any circumstances. They can only hope that the replacement signings will perform much better than their predecessors, to avoid a situation where, in subsequent summers, these players arrive merely for the sake of appearances, with uncertain careers and ultimately achieving nothing in their own personal and team careers, despite the team's high hopes.

With Malacia's transfer just completed, Manchester United's next squad is also starting to show some progress. The departure of this player was not surprising, given the club's pivotal decisions in announcing his replacement, brought in just days after Patrick Dorgu's transfer from Lecce for approximately £25 million – a significant difference in the level of desire for the two players and their varying lengths of service: the peak years of their careers versus a period of honing their skills and developing their abilities, yet struggling to adapt to new tactics. This also led to the departure of highly commercial players after a series of shocking failed buyout decisions. This young striker is currently the biggest promise from the youth academy, so the long-term future that the Red Devils are investing in will certainly be of great interest in the near future, especially in positions that can link up and create a ripple effect for the whole team, considering the somewhat rapid successes of the two reigning champions who for many years have only been friends with the group of mid-table teams that were not highly rated in terms of cohesion or professional value at the negotiating table.
