U.23 Vietnam will be even more classy
The success at the U.23 Southeast Asian tournament cannot be considered a breakthrough for U.23 Vietnam. As evidence, Vietnamese youth football won this tournament in 2022 and 2023. The title in a short tournament with only 4 matches can come from many factors, such as performance, tactics, personnel selection... That is not necessarily a measure of a football's youth training capacity.
However, the victory over host U.23 Indonesia at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium is still a breath of fresh air for Vietnamese youth football, especially when the 0-4 defeat to Malaysia in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers began to raise questions about the limits of the Vietnamese team, requiring the younger generation to quickly mature to succeed them.

More importantly, Coach Kim Sang-sik had a smooth start to be confident with U.23 Vietnam. The Korean strategist impressed with the way he selected people, built a cohesive team in both attack and defense, and found suitable pieces for his students' abilities after only 1 month of training. Surely, this is not the limit of U.23 Vietnam. With a longer working time, Coach Kim Sang-sik is capable of creating an even stronger team.
Quality overseas Vietnamese cast
Because in the near future, Coach Kim Sang-sik can own quality overseas Vietnamese talents. That is Chung Do (full name is Do Nguyen Thanh Chung), a player born in 2005 who just joined Ninh Binh Club with a record fee, said to be 15 billion VND.
Chung Do used to play for Bulgaria U.18 and U.21, was promoted to Slavia Sofia's first team and had 62 matches when he was not yet 20 years old. Although highly rated in the Bulgarian national championship, Chung Do chose to return to Vietnam to contribute to his homeland.

Because he has Vietnamese nationality, Chung Do will likely be called up to the U.23 Vietnam team to "try out" in mid-August, when the team prepares for the 2026 U.23 Asian qualifiers. With a height of 1.75 m and a specialty in playing central midfielder, Chung Do will bring fighting spirit and tactical vision to the midfield, which is in need of more talent.

Rookie Brandon Ly of Hanoi Police Club (CAHN Club) is also a promising name. Brandon Ly used to play for U.21 Burnley, he played as a right-back and defensive midfielder, has good technique and is very young (also born in 2005). Brandon Ly is currently applying for Vietnamese citizenship. When he meets the requirements, the former Burnley player can be trusted by coach Kim Sang-sik.
Among the "precious gems" of overseas Vietnamese is Julien Nguyen. The player born in 2006 plays for the U.19 Fuenlabrada team (Spain), and has competed with U.19 Real Madrid and U.19 Atletico Madrid. Although he has only played football in Spain for 2 years, the Vietnamese-Canadian player has made a strong impression thanks to his height, relatively good physique and comprehensive playing style. In addition, this midfielder is also highly appreciated for his technique, passing ability and still has a lot of potential to develop.
"I am not afraid to adapt and am ready for new challenges. If called up, I will devote myself to Vietnamese football," Julien Nguyen confided to Thanh Nien Newspaper.

Julien Nguyen and his family are currently enjoying their vacation in Vietnam, before continuing the new season. Julien Nguyen is in the process of applying for Vietnamese citizenship, and if he has all the necessary documents, the young Vietnamese-American midfielder is just waiting for a call from coach Kim to try out for the national team.
The overseas Vietnamese force has helped the Vietnamese team improve its capacity, and now it is time for the wind from Europe to strengthen the U.23 Vietnam team. Coach Kim Sang-sik will continue to purify and reform the force. Let's wait for a new look from the young Vietnamese team in the 2026 U.23 Asian qualifiers and the 33rd SEA Games.
