On the evening of October 9, the Vietnamese team won 3-1 against Nepal in the qualifying round of Group F of the 2027 Asian Cup at Go Dau Stadium. The only goal conceded by the red team occurred in the 17th minute by Sanish Shrestha.
In the press conference room, coach Kim Sang Sik commented: "Although we had many finishing situations, scoring only 3 goals was already a success today. In fact, the Vietnamese players need to be more careful in finishing to score more goals."
Not only did the score equalize 1-1, the Vietnamese defense also had a close call in the second half. That was also a rare point of insecurity for the home team players in this match.
Mr. Kim acknowledged: "We will practice better to limit mistakes in the match against Nepal. Actually, the Nepal team played quite well, but their physical condition has problems. That is the weakest point."
Coach Kim Sang Sik praised goalkeeper Dang Van Lam on his return: "Goalkeeper Dang Van Lam was in good form during the period before the training session. That's why I called him."
The Korean coach also pointed out sending strikers Pham Gia Hung and Nguyen Thanh Nhan into the field in the second half to increase the attack and exploit the physical weakness of the Nepal team.
The Malaysian team won against Laos, coach Kim Sang Sik's reaction was not to care about the opponent. He mainly enjoyed the victory and looked forward to the return match.
"I know Malaysia will win, but we will try our best in the remaining three matches. Vietnam will focus on ourselves and not think about the group stage," he confidently said.
Nepal will meet Vietnam in the second leg as hosts at Thong Nhat Stadium on October 14.
