U Minh collapsed and blew off the roofs of 89 houses overnight

Accordingly, at around 4:30 a.m. on July 30, in U Minh district, heavy rain accompanied by a tornado collapsed and blew off the roofs of 89 houses, of which 40 houses collapsed completely and 49 houses had their roofs blown off. The most severely damaged localities were Khanh Thuan commune with 49 houses and U Minh town with 33 houses; 3 people were injured and are being treated at U Minh district Medical Center. The total estimated damage to houses and property was over 5.6 billion VND.

Vice Chairman of U Minh District People's Committee, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Liem, provided financial support to households whose houses collapsed on July 30.

In addition, the tornado also damaged many types of crops, fruit trees, and dozens of electric poles along the roads were also knocked down, causing power outages and traffic jams; many people's properties were swept away by the tornado.

Upon receiving the information, Vice Chairman of U Minh District People's Committee, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Liem, was present at the scene to visit, encourage, and promptly support households whose houses were completely collapsed with 3 million VND; houses with damaged roofs were supported with 1 to 2 million VND depending on the level of damage to overcome the consequences.

Agencies, departments and organizations help people repair houses collapsed due to storms.

Currently, U Minh district has directed the Militia, Police, Youth Union, Electricity and local authorities to rescue people; mobilize on-site means and tools to clear fallen trees on the road; restore the electrical system. At the same time, mobilize forces to clear collapsed houses; repair houses with blown-off roofs, helping people stabilize their housing as soon as possible.

Thus, in the past 2 weeks, due to the impact of storms No. 1 and No. 2, in U Minh district, 174 houses collapsed and had their roofs blown off; 114 hectares of hybrid acacia forest were damaged; 18.1 hectares of bananas in hamlets 11 and 12, Khanh Thuan commune and many areas of crops and fruit trees were damaged.

Currently, the southern bank of Khanh Hoi estuary has eroded a section of about 15m (Khanh Hoi market area). The cause is due to the broken plastic embankment, the impact of long-term sea waves causing erosion of the embankment foot (inside the embankment), causing the concrete above to collapse, directly affecting the production and daily life of the people.

At sea, two local fishing boats sank due to big waves and strong winds while operating in the waters of Con Dao, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province (Fishing boat CM-95227-TS owned by Mr. Do Van Sang, permanent resident of Hamlet 4, Khanh Hoi commune and fishing boat CM-5068-TS owned by Mr. Nguyen Van Tuy, permanent resident of Hamlet 2, Khanh Hoi commune, total estimated damage of nearly 10 billion VND./.
