On June 7, K Hospital announced that doctors had successfully performed surgery to remove a facial cancer mass measuring more than 20 cm in diameter from patient TTY, 64 years old, (in Thanh Hoa ).
Previously, on May 10, the patient came to K Hospital (Tan Trieu facility) for examination when he had a large wart lesion covering the entire lip and mouth area, the tumor was bleeding, oozing pus, and the appearance was unsightly.

The CT scan results showed a large tumor in the lower lip area measuring 15x20 cm, invading the lower jaw, floor of the mouth, tongue, and metastasizing to multiple bilateral neck lymph nodes measuring 2-3 cm. The patient was diagnosed with lower lip cancer.
Dr. Ngo Xuan Quy, Head of the Department of Head and Neck Surgery (K Hospital) said that through investigation, the patient said that he had this tumor for about 3 years, the tumor gradually increased in size, however, the patient did not go to the hospital immediately but followed the instructions of some people about the macrobiotic diet to prevent tumor growth.
After many years of eating a macrobiotic diet, the patient's health became increasingly exhausted, the tumor did not decrease, and grew in size. Partly because of his inferiority complex, patient Y. did not go to the doctor. Only when the tumor became too large, showing signs of growing larger and larger, its shape was unsightly, and he could not eat or drink did the patient go to K Hospital.
According to Dr. Quy, when admitted to the hospital, a large tumor appeared in the lip area, invading the surrounding area... The patient was assessed as having a weakened physical condition, severe diabetes, and a potential risk of coma.
"This is unfortunate because if patient Y. had not followed the macrobiotic diet but gone to the doctor earlier, sought modern medicine and combined methods, the treatment would have been much simpler," Dr. Quy assessed.
Up to now, after 1 week of surgery to remove the entire tumor, the patient's health has gradually stabilized, he can eat and talk. The patient will continue to be monitored, treated and have plastic surgery later.
Dr. Quy said that the macrobiotic diet is a diet that many people apply and believe can treat cancer. In fact, to date, there is no scientific basis or research to prove and recognize macrobiotics as a method of treating cancer, nor is it useful for patients.
