City People's Committee directs response to tropical depression

Hai Phong City People's Committee has just sent an urgent dispatch to city departments, branches, and People's Committees of communes, wards, and special zones on responding to tropical depression.

According to the bulletin of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting and the Hai Phong City Hydro-Meteorological Station, at 7:00 a.m. on August 18, the center of the tropical depression was at about 18.8 degrees North latitude. 108.4 degrees East longitude in the sea east of Bac Bo Gulf, about 135 km southeast of Bach Long Vi, strongest wind level 6 - 7 (39 - 61 km/h), gust level 9. Forecast in the next 24 hours, the tropical depression will move northwest at a speed of 15 km/h, at 7:00 a.m. on August 19, the tropical depression will be located at 21.5 North latitude - 107.4 East longitude (on Quang Ninh - Lang Son ), wind level 6, gust level 8.

To proactively respond to the tropical depression, the Chairman of the City People's Committee requested departments, branches, sectors and People's Committees of communes, wards and special zones to closely monitor the development of the tropical depression; proactively review and implement prevention plans according to approved scenarios and plans; and prepare forces and means for rescue when required.

For coastal localities, organize counting and notify owners of vehicles and captains of ships and boats operating at sea of the location, direction of movement and developments of tropical depressions so that they can proactively avoid, escape or not move into dangerous areas; maintain communication to promptly handle bad situations that may occur.

Proactively deploy measures to ensure safety for people at cages, aquaculture watchtowers at sea and vehicles that have returned to anchorage.

For other localities, proactively deploy measures to prevent tropical depressions in accordance with the development of tropical depressions and local characteristics. Prepare measures to drain water and protect agricultural production when there is heavy rain caused by tropical depression circulation.

City departments, branches and sectors, based on their functions and tasks, proactively implement measures to prevent tropical depression and guide and direct localities to implement them.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment (the agency advising the City Civil Defense Command on natural disaster prevention) regularly and closely monitors weather developments and proactively advises the City Civil Defense Command and the City People's Committee on response instructions.
