The Ukrainian Defense Ministry has issued an urgent warning, urging citizens not to ignore air raid sirens over the weekend, emphasizing the need to pay particular attention to security signals in Kyiv, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
"Please do not ignore the air raid sirens this weekend. Please ensure your safety and the safety of your loved ones. Russians are in a desperate situation... Seek shelter. Don't forget your loved ones. This applies to everyone, but especially to Kyiv," the Ministry of Defense stated.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said Moscow would continue to carry out attacks in retaliation for Ukraine's raid on a dormitory in the town of Starobelsk in the Lugansk region – territory that Russia claims to have annexed – which killed 21 people.
Russia viewed the development as "the straw that broke the camel's back" and warned it would launch "systematic attacks" on a range of different targets across the Ukrainian capital.
The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that the operation would also target Ukrainian "decision-making centers and command centers" scattered throughout Kyiv.
Moscow is urging foreign citizens, including diplomats and representatives of international organizations, to leave the Ukrainian capital immediately. The Russian Foreign Ministry also warned city residents to stay away from "military and administrative infrastructure of the Kyiv authorities."
