In 2016, Mr. Tran The Hau's family in Tan Cuong residential area, Yen Dung ward, boldly took on the lease of 1.1 hectares of low-lying, unproductive rice fields in the locality to convert them into a model of aquaculture combined with livestock farming.

On the leased land, Mr. Hau planned a stable area of approximately 400 m² for regularly fattening 30-40 horses; the remaining area he planned as a pond for raising various types of fish such as tilapia, grass carp, and common carp.
In previous years, due to a lack of production experience, the fish frequently suffered from diseases, affecting yield and economic efficiency. In 2025, with the support and assistance of the Bac Ninh Agricultural Extension Center, his family participated in a model applying digital technology to intensive farming of grass carp combined with tilapia and common carp on a scale of 0.5 hectares.
By participating in the model, he received training and technology transfer in intensive fish farming; partial support for the cost of purchasing fish fry, feed, biological products, water aerators, feeders, and two sets of smart devices to control the water aerator and feeder systems.
According to Mr. Hau, when participating in the model of applying technology to intensive fish farming, people are guided on measures to prevent and treat fish diseases such as: regular water treatment, using lime, and microbial preparations to treat the pond bottom.
In addition to mixed feed, the family increases the use of homemade feed such as elephant grass, corn, and sprouted rice, ensuring quality standards. The application of digital technology in intensive fish farming also helps reduce labor, limit the use of antibiotics and chemicals, thereby minimizing environmental pollution. Each year, from the model of fish farming combined with horse fattening, the family generates a total revenue of approximately 8 billion VND, with a profit of around 650-700 million VND.
Reportedly, Yen Dung ward currently has about 140 hectares of water surface dedicated to aquaculture, including 70-80 households engaged in intensive aquaculture.
According to Mr. Nguyen Ha Giang, Permanent Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Yen Dung Ward, in order to effectively exploit the potential of the water surface, in recent years, the People's Committee of the ward has coordinated with specialized agencies of the Department of Agriculture and Environment to strengthen training and transfer of advanced aquaculture techniques, converting from semi-intensive to high-tech intensive farming to improve productivity and economic efficiency.
