New missile Iskander-1000
According to The EurAsian Times , Russia's Iskander ballistic missile has posed a significant challenge to Ukrainian forces since the conflict broke out. This missile becomes more dangerous if it is upgraded with a guidance system and extended range.
According to Russian military bloggers and Ukrainian media, the Iskander missile, after being improved, with a range extended to 1,000 km and a warhead upgraded, is expected to be named Iskander-1000.
According to the Ukrainian media outlet Defense Express , the new Iskander-1000 missile has a target accuracy of only about 5 meters. Defense Express emphasized that the upgraded warhead of the missile can use an automatic inertial guidance system, capable of correcting satellite positioning, or use a radar guidance system based on terrain maps in the target area at the final stage of the flight.
The Iskander-1000 missile can be launched from the Iskander launcher. The new missile model has a similar structure to the 9M723 ballistic missile. However, the degree of similarity of this missile with previous Iskander variants is still unclear, even the weight of the Iskander-1000 missile has not been disclosed.
Iskander-M version
Iskander is a Russian tactical missile system, of which the Iskander-M version is equipped with a satellite guidance system.
The Iskander-M is one of Russia's most advanced missile systems, capable of carrying a variety of warheads, including nuclear ones. The missile system is highly maneuverable and can penetrate current missile defense systems, making it a very effective offensive weapon.
The Iskander missile is 7.2 m long, 0.95 m in diameter, has a flight weight of 3.8 tons, a 380 kg warhead, and can fly at an altitude of 50 km. The missile's range is designed to attack targets within a range of 50 to 500 km. The missile's guidance system has also been modified to accommodate strong electronic countermeasures and increase accuracy when attacking targets.
During nearly three years of fighting, Russia has repeatedly fired Iskander-M missiles at high-value Ukrainian targets, including frontline command posts, armored vehicle staging areas, ammunition depots, Patriot air defense missile batteries, and HIMARS artillery vehicles.
The Iskander-M missile complex can fire at two different targets within 1 minute. The Iskander-M missile weighs 3.8 tons and carries a 480kg high explosive fragmentation warhead. The special feature of this missile line is its ability to fly in an unconventional trajectory, making it difficult to intercept and the missile is controlled throughout the entire flight.
Each Iskander-M missile launcher usually carries 2 missiles. Iskander-M is very effective in destroying fixed enemy military structures such as: Airports, warehouses, command centers...
