This makes V the first K-pop solo artist to surpass 2 million copies in the first week of an album release since Hanteo began releasing sales data.
First-week sales are considered an important benchmark for measuring an artist's popularity and the size of that artist's fandom.
To date, only five solo artists have surpassed the 1 million mark in their first week of album sales, with V's bandmates Jimin and SUGA taking the top three spots with "Face" (1.45 million) and "D-Day" (1.28 million).
"Layover" is expected to rank high on the main Billboard 200 albums chart this week, which will be released as early as Sunday (US time).
The album's title literally means the period of time a person rests after finishing a journey.
The album contains six songs, including the lead single, "Slow Dancing", as well as previously released songs "Rainy Days" and "Love Me Again". The album also features the songs "Blue", "For Us", and a piano version of "Slow Dancing".
