On the evening of May 16th, Song Lam Nghe An hosted Ninh Binh at Vinh Stadium in the 23rd round of the V-League 2025-2026. Prior to this match, the Nghe An team was in poor form and desperately needed three points to improve their position in the standings.

Immediately after the opening whistle, Song Lam Nghe An proactively pushed their attacking line forward and put great pressure on Ninh Binh's goal. In the 7th minute, Van Luong had a chance to face goalkeeper Dang Van Lam, but his shot was blocked. Immediately afterwards, Olaha rushed in for the rebound but still couldn't beat the visiting team's defense.

A few minutes later, Song Lam Nghe An continued to create chances when Manh Quynh's cross unexpectedly went straight towards Ninh Binh's goal, but goalkeeper Van Lam remained focused and made a save for his team.

After an initial period of being outplayed, Ninh Binh gradually regained control of the game and began to create some notable attacking opportunities. However, Hoang Duc and his teammates also faced considerable difficulties in getting close to the home team's goal.

In the 30th minute, following a quick counter-attack, Friday broke through to face the Song Lam Nghe An goalkeeper before crossing the ball for Gia Hung to shoot into the empty net. However, the goal was disallowed as Friday was offside.

Towards the end of the first half, Ninh Binh attacked even more aggressively. In the 31st minute, Geovane made a powerful breakthrough before his shot went over the crossbar. Shortly after, Hoang Duc skillfully controlled the ball in the midfield and then played a through pass to Quoc Viet, but the striker's shot hit the post.

In the second half, the game continued at a high pace. Both teams exchanged attacks and created many notable opportunities. In the 64th minute, Olaha rose high to head the ball after a pass from a teammate, but the ball went wide of the Ninh Binh goalpost.

But Song Lam Nghe An fans didn't have to wait much longer to celebrate a goal. In the 67th minute, from a corner kick by his teammate, Ba Quyen rose high to head the ball into the net of Ninh Binh, opening the scoring for the home team.

After breaking the deadlock, Song Lam Nghe An played with more confidence and nearly scored a second goal against the team from the ancient capital. Unfortunately, in a one-on-one situation, the Vietnamese-born player Karim Tran Phi Long shot too weakly, allowing goalkeeper Dang Van Lam to easily catch the ball.

Unwilling to accept defeat in Vinh, Ninh Binh immediately pushed forward to attack. In the 81st minute, the referee awarded a penalty to the visiting team after determining that a Song Lam Nghe An player had handled the ball inside the penalty area. From the penalty spot, Geovane calmly deceived goalkeeper Huu Hau, bringing the game back to a tie.

The equalizer boosted Ninh Binh's morale, and just a few minutes later, Geovane completed his brace, giving the visitors a 2-1 lead.

In the final minutes of the match, Song Lam Nghe An almost threw everything into attack to find an equalizer. However, the home team was powerless against Ninh Binh's defense and accepted a 1-2 defeat right on their home ground in Vinh.
